Doesn't matter what it's used for. 0 dead money on the cap is better than having 916K of dead money, it's that simple. I don't care about the Flyers saving money.
- MJL

It does matter what it is used for...because you should be comparing 916k of dead money to 4.5 mill of dead money right now. It is a trade off, and it's one that I think hurts the flyers the least right now out of all of their options (besides retained salary trade)

How dare we talk about trading superstar Giroux, how would the team score any goals if he wasn't here? The same people defending him are probably the same homers saying couturier shuts down malkin so he can't be traded either. Schenn Simmonds couturier read have been here multiple years they aren't getting better. Misjudged thier talents or should we keep saying wait another year.

He would get bought out in June...So its only 4 years
- YuenglingJagr

and who do you replace him with that will win the cup for us? if we buy him out we'll still have a cap hit longer than we could just ride the years until we desperately need to get rid of the cap hit

Teams that have picks that high, aren't going to be interested in trading For Giroux. They're not one player away and would rather build around the 19 year old star, than the 28 year old star.
- MJL

It would have to be for a very highly rated prospect rather than just a draft pick...similar to Richards

That's wrong. If the Flyers buyout Lecavalier this off season, what is the dead money on the cap for the 16/17 season? The correct comparison is one year of 4.5M for a player who isn't going to play much, for 2 years of cap savings, and 4 years of dead money. It will hurt the Flyers, but potentially only for one season, where the team won't be a good team, compared to hurting them for 4 seasons, where they could potentially be a good team.

You then have the space to move contracts around if we are going to be pinned up against the cap as it looks currently. It gives players a chance to move up to the Flyers.

I am not suggesting buyout Vinny for the hell of it. I am saying, he is worth absolutely nothing right now and forces the flyers to play with a 22 man roster for 2 more years. To me, what you gain is worth what you would lose. We need to resign Raffl and Schenn and possibly 1 defenseman...the numbers dont look good without losing a contract for next year

That's untrue, Lecavalier would be capable of playing next season. He won't be good, but he can play. Resigning the players won't be a problem. The Flyers should be losing some contracts for next season.

You are right it is 4.5 minus the dead money for 2 seasons. 1.584 savings next season and 2.084 savings after that...followed by a -917k hit for 2 more seasons.

Bottom line is if you think you can use the cap savings to make your team better...you do it. It is a very realistic possibility because of the money it would save the flyers and the cap space/roster spot it would open

Is having him not dead cap space??
I hate losing, I'm not like the average poster drooling over more, and more picks.

You have to weigh it against how much better can you make the temperature without dead money. The Flyers simply do not need the cap space for next season. Hextall may feel differently but it would be a mistake in my opinion.

In essence, yes, but it's only for one season, not 4. The Flyers are not going to be a good team next season. They may he more fun to watch but they'll be struggling. They don't need the cap space.

The Flyers dont need the cap space for next season ONLY if they trade away contracts that are on the books next season or somehow find a way to fill their holes under the cap (not looking good)
