Does anyone think that Eichel is playing poorly?

(and no, I don't think he is)

You would have to define what playing poorly is for a 19 year old in the NHL.

he is playing very good defensively.. his offense isn't producing. He needs to start mixing in more moves than just cutting to the middle of the ice.

There were a few times yesterday he was a little slow to make a pass and got his pocket picked. It's going to happen, he's a rookie.

But no I don't think he's playing poorly. He is still adjusting to the decision making time when he has the puck and is standing still or barely moving, that will come with time.

The main issue I see with this team thus far, is secondary scoring. They're not getting any. Some of that may be due to the fact that while the defense isn't playing poorly, our transition game isn't exactly spectacular. If they can figure that out and get better outlet passes more consistently, we may see some more guys getting on the board each night.
- HonkFortheGoose

It's primary and secondary.

I know I pick on Kane but he has 1 goal in 9 games.
Gionta has 1 goal and is in a top 6 role.
Moulson 4 goals and in a top 6 role
Girgensons has 1 goal (or 2?)

But yes, guys like Larsson need to step up and start producing

I'm in the middle of a debate with a friend. He said that since the Tampa game, he's been atrocious, but looked better last night. He seems to think that because he was labeled a "generational" talent, he should be producing more and playing better.

I haven't had an issue overall with his game. Are there areas where I think he could improve? Sure. I just feel like his expectations are a bit high.

Eichel's overall game is incredible for a 19 year old. I haven't seen a 19 year old have such a good 2 way game right away like this ever.

I agree with this. Their inability to finish is more than a passing fad. It's really making me lose interest in watching the games, knowing their match chances at shots(or beat them) of their opponent and not win the game.

Anyone else impressed with Gorges this season?
Hasnt gotten a lot of attention (Which is good for his style)
Glad to see the knee is holding up

- yen6d1

I am fine with his play, which is why I was shocked when I heard they are still looking for a d man

skunk is playing much better in his own end from what I am noticing

jack does have the wow factor which makes me overlook some of his defensive flaws

I see him as slow to react, and looking to rush down the ice when we don't have the puck yet, instead of going in the corners

in the two periods i saw of him this season i didn't not see anything that made me scared of his play.. when he saw the puck he was making the saves and he made them easily
- IndianaSabresFan

yeah, i dunno, i guess i've always been cautious about that trade. I didn't see why we didn't just give our home grown talent a shot and keep the pick, I wasn't like we were aiming for the Cup this season.

I know it was preseason and all, but he let in a lot of goals....11 on 95 shots faced. Good for a 0.884 Sv%, just makes me nervous.

he's complaining that Larkin is outscoring him.

Let me point out too, to save you the trouble, they have the exact same number of goals (6), but Eichel has 3 less assists (Larkin has 7, Eichel has 4).

don't laugh when I say this, in the last 20 years the best 2 way player under 20 in the nhl has been scott gomez IMO

he was all over the ice his rookie year (19) and put up 70 points

i didn't really think he was all that bad defensively (considering his age). yes he is quick to rush and over time he will learn to adjust that for when it is warranted vs not needed.

Girgensons has been in a bottom 6 role most of the year. He's primarily been the 3rd line center. I'm not all about the advanced stats, but my eyes tell me his game is fine. He's doing what's being asked of him. So, at this point, he falls into the "secondary" scoring category, and yes, he need to start putting some of them in the net.

I'd prefer Gio not in the top 6. But I'm not the coach...

What i noticed last night was that at times he seems to get bogged down by the slower pace of the players around him.

Just look at when he turned the jets on during the last few minutes of play, went straight up the middle to challenge 2 D men and they were definately not expecting that from him....seems that where he excels is when he holds onto the puck and finishes what he creates.

I'm not laughing at all.

It's pretty valid.

I think a lot of people expecting Jack to be a one dimensional player and they are finding out he's not.

If Murray came out and said they were just going to go with Ullmark and Johnson this year, everyone would have had even more of a meltdown than they did over the Lehner trade.

Eichel should have about 8 more assists if his teammates could bury a chance. I can think of 3 to Kane alone in the first 3 games and 2 to Moulson and that's without even trying that hard.

i am not saying i was a fan of the trade.. but i don't see the reason to be worried.

as for the homegrown talent. No one expected Ullmark to be playing this good this quickly. I figured he needed a season to adjust then another to hone. I thought he would be a backup in 3 years.. Ocho Cinco wasn't going to hold down the fort till then. We needed someone, i just wish they would have gone for Griess instead

with risto, eichel and the skunk we have a trio to build this team around for the next decade

You have to remember Ullmark was coming off double hip surgery. Going with home grown talent when you don't know what that talent is would be crazy.

Same here,
He's playing a top pair role which is out of his element and has held his own. IMO helps Risto push the tempo at times
