not meaningless but certainly not all there is to hockey. i think if you're out-possessing teams for the most part, you're doing a lot of things right.
- DoubleDown

Still subjective, we are listening to a person telling us what the possession is, it is like listening to what stat guys are telling us what a giveaway and takeaways are (and it is wrong every game), for the most part it is an opinion from one person. It could be interpreted several different ways by several people.

It's not reliable when based upon opinion from one individual.

Howard Berger. the guy is spending thousands of his own dollars to continue to "report" on the team..... And he writes nonsense like that.

Canes play really well as a unit and are well coached, but the individual play of a couple of forwards (Terry, Gerbe) and the outrageously poor positioning of Ron Hainsey has cost the team big time.

For whatever reason the puck just isn't going in the net.As a whole over the course of an entire game the Canes typically outplay their opponents, but on those individual breakdowns that happen several times a night for every team, the Canes are getting blown out of the water and not catching any breaks at the other end.

Their CORSI is slipping badly. They're going to start losing a lot of games. This won't continue.

They only win when their CORSI is bad.

Two weeks ago the Leafs were bottom dwellers in the standings and rankings but had better than avg. S.A. Corsi (about 53%). poopty special teams and poopty g'tending made up for very good possession.

Two weeks later the Leafs are moving up in the standings and rankings do to great g'tending and special teams and their S.A. Corsi has sunk towards the bottom (about 48%).

It's (frank)ed.

TSN's power rankings show every teams score adjusted CORSI.
Toronto's is pretty bad. but like the other guy said, Carolina is top 5.

The leafs are somewhere around the middle of the league.. 49%
its an improvement for them

One other things I saw the other day was the leafs have had one of the toughest schedules so far. That will impact a lot this early

Edit: not laughing at not being able to link, I get that.. Laughing at calling it competing.

Dude has been injured most of the year. He's getting better. Really picking up his game lately, but you could see he was having trouble skating early on.

Points will come soon.

I saw that. Neat. You think Bud Holloway will get a callup? Guy won like 3 championships overseas, dominated the SEL.

I think it was meant as in competition, ie the amount of pts the teams they have faced have garnered.

what that shows is that most of the league resides in the mushy middle of the pack. you've always got a few who have ridiculous possession number like LA and a few who are putrid like Colorado. but really what's the difference between a 49% Corsi or 51% Corsi?
