That would be PTR not Shattenkirk. He is injury prone and I have seen him defensively exposed on many delightful occasions. Particularly the first round of 14.

If he was that good he wouldn't be the name they always toss out as trade bait.

Parayko could be that good. Scary talent.

- tredbrta

I think PTR has regressed a bit actually and that Shatty is better. Some Blues fans said the same thing but that was early last season when Shatty was tearing it up...before the injuries started piling up. I haven't watched enough of the Blues to give a real opinion though I do think that based on history, Shatty and PTR are pretty close to each other.

You are right about Parayko. He is a stud. Reminds me of Maatta's rookie season.

Nobody said the situation was ideal. 24 hours ago I would have never even entertained the thought of moving Hamonic and I probably would have told you that Hamonic was going to retire an Islander.

I think you're grossly overvaluing Okposo and grossly undervaluing Shattenkirk. Shattenkirk may not be a defensive stalwart, but he's most certainly not Marc Andre Bergeron either. And Okposo is hot right now but his effort level is, overall, questionable at best and he fails to contribute unless he is playing with Tavares.

So you have two guys that are goners no matter what anyone thinks/feels/wants etc...
If the Blues were willing to trade Shattenkirk I would happily move one or both of them.

Do we even know if the Blue's want to move Shattster?

I think we have to at least entertain the notion that Snow could have asked him to add in the bit about "playing the whole season if he has to" to stop some of the bleeding in his negotiating power. If GM's think Snow and Hamonic are willing to wait out the season they may up their offers to force a trade.
- eichiefs9

Maybe. Keep hearing Hamonic is a class act off the ice, charities and what not.

I hate to agree with rangerdanger, but he's right. We can deal with the issue now or we can deal with it on July 2nd. I don't see Okposo as the piece that is going to lead us to the Cup this year. May as well move him while his stock is high.
- eichiefs9

I agree. I rather move KO now instead of losing him for nothing.

It did seem like a ploy from Hamonic playing the entire year to stop the bleeding.
- ses111

Listen I think there is a very high chance that the statement was organic and sincere, Hammer is obviously an exemplary human being. I'm just saying, it's fair to at least consider the possibility that as part of the agreement to move him, Snow asked him to throw that in there.

Or that could have been the plan all along knowing it wasn't going to be an easy move

edit: it doesn't have to be Shattenkirk either. Just the name we happened to be discussing.

- eichiefs9

You get back a really good piece in Shattenkirk if you package Okposo and Hamonic. There could be prospects and packages to fine tune the value on each side of the deal too.

Either way, Shattenkirk is better for the Isles than either Okposo walking or Okposo being dealt at the deadline as a rental for a draft pick imo.

I have no problem moving Okposo in the right deal. I'm just not making him a throw in

They'd be crazy not to entertain a Yak or Eberle for Hamonic swap. But I'm from PIT where high end forwards and no name Dmen is common practice.

So the guy who was sent down because he was playing like crap is going to replace our 2nd leading scorer and not miss a beat? Hamonic is better defensively that Shattenkirk and now losing a top 6 forward as well for a PP specialist? Not sure how that helps them right now
- Vukota

Im with you V, I'm not trading KO and Hammer for Shatter.
Stormer isn't replacing KO the way he's been playing.

Not only does he have the charity for kids who lost a parent, but he meets with them after game and doesn't allow cameras to be present. Any charity work is good charity work, but it's especially clear that he truly cares about the kids and not the publicity, etc...

He is really, seemingly, an unbelievably good person. Which makes the situation even worse for the Isles and their fans.

Who cares if he's a throw-in, centerpiece, or whatever. If he's part of a deal that lands us a strong defenseman that helps ease the blow of losing Hamonic, I'm all for it.

Who knows maybe when the contract is up in 4 years and the family situation is taken care off he'll come back as UFA

I thought about that last night actually. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. If Snow can do him a solid now, it may pay off in the long run and Travis is only going to be 29 when that deal ends.

It doesn't necessarily have to be Strome stepping in for KO. You could bump someone up from the 2nd line to play with JT and then move Strome there or on the 3rd line. Or you could get back a bottom 6 piece from St Louis and do the same where you shift people up and slot in this piece in the bottom 6.

Just don't like KO and Hammer for Shattenkirk.
Bad enough that we are losing our best defensive defenseman who leads the team Dmen in Ice time, Hits and +- now we are losing our top line wing all because Hammer and or his fiancée or wife don't like NY and his family misses him? Nah, however they traded Oshie so I think Snow should have been all over this with Oshie and Shattenkirk coming here with Hammer and KO going there being the center pieces of a trade, unless Travis didn't tell Snow until after Oshie was traded.

Still good, just not worth the contract.
