Mashinter played against NJ. That was the first game he was called up for.

I guess that indicates how noticeable he is. Thanks for the correction.

Correct, but that was the home game against the Devils. I think 19 dropped the gloves in the game in New Jersey a few days earlier.

Islanders are quietly looking to trade Hamonic but need to get the same kind of player back. If only....

@DarrenDreger: Credit to @FriedgeHNIC on Hamonic story. He has family concerns in West Canada and requested a move before the season...

@DarrenDreger: Hamonic loves the Isles. This is personal. Wpg, Edmtn, Cgy and Van all preferred. Might expand to other west cities. Tough on Isles....

@DarrenDreger: Garth Snow wants an equitable player in return. Given status of Hamonic tough deal to make.

Daley and Rundblad for Harmonic. Get it done Stan.

Cool to think about, but if he wants to go to a Western Canadian/US team, why would he come to the Chicago? Sure, they're in the Western conference, but it sounds Harmonic is looking to go as far West as possible, ideally in Canada-not a Midwestern city in the US, you know.

Interesting angle. I don't want Toews fighting either. EVER. I applaud him sticking up against the buffoon Backes, but still....let others (we can afford to lose for 5 minutes-or longer) handle it
- kwolf68

I'd rather see him take care of himself like a grown up.

Edit: I'd rather see the referees do their job above all else.

I would love to have Hamonic on the Blackhawks. Stan seems to like guys from Winnipeg and from Hamonic's perspective he wouldn't be too far from him. I think it would be a tough deal for Stan to make happen. My guess is that it would cost one of Teravainen or Dano, I'm not sure that is a bad price either. Not only is Hamonic great on & off the ice, but a cap hit of less than $3.9 million for this season and four more is a steal.

Snow wants a comparable d man and there are western teams that have them. Anaheim (I know it's not WC but it's closer) could start that shake up they have been blathering about by moving one of the RFAs with a goalie or Winnipeg could send Enstrom plus some young talent. It would probably take at least TVR and TT to get him from Snow.

Hamonic has a great contract and is a solid player. Teams will want him. No chance Snow takes Daley - EVEN WITH the massive sweetener of Rundblad to entice him.

I'd consider trading TT for that return. Our ole buddy UrNotMe needs to jump on here and tell us why the Islanders would never do it.

Mashinter's first game was indeed against the devilks but it was the one a week later after Toews fought Henrique. All the players I've known or seen in interviews on the Hawks love having fighters on the team that includes Kane Toews Keith Seabrook and Sharp when he was on the hawks. They have respect for that type of player and that type of player is usually a key guy in the clubhouse, who keeps things lose and is a guy you know you can count on to have your back on the ice when you need it. Is Mashinter that guy, he isn't a horrible player is a very good fighter and is a big body. I don't know if he has what it takes for the enforcer role even in today's watered down NHL where your toughguy only fights 10 to 15 times a year unlike the 80's though mid 2000s. If it were up to me I'd have a guy like Brett Gallant up on the big club just for rivalry games. He's a big time checker can absoulutly throw down and loves his job. The closest thing the hawks have in the system to that type of player is Liambis. But i'm rooting Mashinter can be that type of player.

Acquiring Hamonic would be a hockey move and not a business (cap) move. Names like Daley, Bickell and Rundblad shouldn't be included in the conversation (maybe Rundblad is a throw in). It will take quality to pry Hamonic out of New York, even if he asked for a trade.

I think Daley would need to go (in a separate deal) to make room cap-wise and on the ice for Hamonic. As much as I'd like to see a deal like this happen I don't feel the situation is right for Chicago.

Winnipeg makes a lot of sense. They have some good quality young dmen that Chevy could part with. Trouba? Maybe. Morrisey? Certainly.

I have nothing against guys dropping the mitts when it's spontaneous and in the heat of battle (unlike the staged goon fights) - I'm no pacifist by any stretch of the definition. But, every player on the roster should be able to actually play at the NHL level or they shouldn't be on the roster. From what I've seen, Mashinter does not have NHL level talent, and the two guys that are sitting in the press box (Tikhonov and Garbutt) actually do have NHL level talent and should be playing before Mashinter.

Maybe I misread the report, but I thought Hamonic requested a trade to the west coast. How is Winnipeg considered west coast? They're not any closer to the west coast than Chicago is ... okay, maybe a little bit closer - like a half inch on the map

I doubt Chevy moves Trouba. Morrisey has some attitude reports out there so he may be added to a deal though.

I believe Hamonic's deal makes it more than a hockey deal. Many teams will have more interest because of the cost control for 6 more years. My bet would be TVR would have to be included in a package with Daley to make it even considerable.

Yeah. Whole host of reasons it wouldn't work here. Be great if we could trade Daley for Harmonic though. Similar cap hits and Daley would be a top 4 on many other teams. Sigh.

As much as I like Hamonic he's not necessarily the type of guy you break the bank for. I don't mind the thought of giving up a young forward for Hamonic, Stan would be dealing from a position of strength. But moving TvR for him may not make sense. I know Hamonic has accomplished more than TvR, but the potential is there for #57 and Stan can't (and likely won't) ignore it.

It was to Western Canada (not coast) supposedly for family reasons and he is from just outside Winnipeg.

Vancouver could work too...a deal surrounding Hamonic and Tanev would be a good start.

If his family is in the Winnipeg area, then the Jets would probably be his first choice. But since he is apparently willing to go to other western Canadian teams someone should point out to him that Chicago is approximately the same distance from Winnipeg as Calgary or Edmonton is, and much closer than Vancouver.

Yep, and the way this played out it appears Snow has had plenty of time and Hamonic's agent brought Friedman in to make it public. If there is a family illness Snow will be under pressure. Nothing can be ruled out.
