Good win for sure but still not feeling good about Toews line. The line is really struggling . Dano is way to inexperienced to play on the line. I think coach should try Shaw again with Toews and Hossa. If that does not work...Stan is going to have to trade for experienced left winger like Marle sooner than he wants to because the line is totally non productive so far. Go Hawks!

Yeah. a 20 year old kid doesn't belong with those two.

oh wait. Remember how much Saad struggled there his first 20 games there? Give him some time.

Plus for whatever reason, they play really well against the Hawks.

They all changed on that first goal. Except Seabrook. SLLOOOWWLLLYYY. Toews, Hossa TVR and Dano. No one was looking.
- TTtime

That's true but it's still the d-man's responsibility to not change in that situation. The problem started with Dano's inability to handle the puck and clear the zone which resulted in a lob pass that Hossa couldn't get. Course, it wasn't just Dano that had trouble clearing the zone once the puck got to within 5 feet of the blue line. All night long the Oiler's out-muscled the Hawks and came up with the puck in our zone.

Yep, and it's not exactly like they have anyone that's done any better. Might as well keep Dano there and hope for the best.

I brought up the other night the Hawks positive trending CF%, and there are some other positive trends to be seen with just their overall goals per game(now 10th, impressive considering our early scoring struggles and the fact that we've only been able to get 1 line truly "going"). Also tied for 3rd in SOG per game. And now up to 6th in FO%. It was CRUCIAL that we remained a very good team at the dot after losing Vermette and having to rely on new centers like Anisimov and Kero. Always been right around 5th or so in FO% the past few seasons so its good to see that again this year.

McDavid, Hall, Draisaitl & Nurse is a nice foundation. Nuge is a solid 2C behind McDavid as well. Still 2 years away from contention, if not more.

They're gonna need way more help on the back end, but those forwards are scary good.

Nurse is going to be a dominant force in this league but there's not much behind him on D. If they had taken a D instead of Yakupov who knows where they'd be today. StanBo got us the right Russian(s) though

Dano isn't exactly seizing his opportunity
- EbonyRaptor

Dano is a 20 yo...new to the system.

I'm in no way concerned about him at this point in time, and no one else should be either.

Kero is showing he belongs. It must be something about the number 67.

I'm not concerned with him from a long range perspective because he has the strength and skills to be a good player down the line - my concern is finding someone who can complement 19-81 and so far the only player on the Hawks roster who has shown he can play a top-6 LW is currently engaged elsewhere.

I agree - pleasant surprise. Plays well all 200 feet. A keeper and his work on the PK may have moved him ahead of Desjardins to be Kruger's PK partner. Very nice.

He was playing less then 3 rookies before Keith came back. What you can't see is he has never been a good defensive player. Never.

He won't help the offense. He doesn't see the ice well. Takes way too long to make an outlet pass.

Daley is the classic has 2 points and is a minus 3 on the night player. And before you tell me all about his 16 goals last season, go take a look at his SH% last season. It was more then twice his career average. Want to bank on that?

The truth is he had an opportunity to step up and prove his worth when Keith was out and he couldn't beat out 3 guys with a total of less then 50 games of NHL experience.

I hope they trade him. The sooner the better.

- TTtime

Daley with 2 shifts in the 3rd. Rosival with 3. Neither on the ice for the last 10+ minutes of the game or so. Dano didn't get a shift in the first 10 minutes of the 3rd....message sent. Mashinter, I just don't get the reason he is playing, that 7 minutes of ice time is not helping anyone, and against a young quick team like EDM he just can't keep up.

A comment on Leon Draisatl - the skuttlebutt was that he had all the tools except skating. Well it didn't look like his skating was a hindrance to him tonight. I thought the kid looked very good. With McDavid, RNH and Draisatl - looks like the Oilers are in good shape down the middle for years to come.

TT "not serious, day-to-day". Good news.

Q said, "We'll see" when asked if he's playing in Calgary on Friday. I'm guessing that means no. If he doesn't, it'll be interesting to see the lines. The easy fix is sub Tiki for TT. A more interesting change would be put Kero on the top line with 19 and 81. Then Shaw-Kruger-Dano on 3rd line and 28-11-14 on the 4th. Unless Q is still under his play Mashinter mandate. (I'm just making that up but why else would he play him?)

I'd keep Dano up there for now, 3rd line Tikhonov-Kruger-Shaw, 4th line Desi-Kero-Garbutt

Kero has the puck sense to fit with Toews and Hossa. I saw that the first exhibition game. I'm not sure he's the guy to win the board battles or go get the puck out of the corner for those guys. But if the defense can transition this year like they have the past 5 years then it's not so much a concern. Assuming he takes direction well, what I know is that Kero is a keeper and will be a solid contributor on whatever line he's playing.
