Wrong. 2013, October ends and Bernier has started 9 games winning 5, 5-4. Starting 5, Reimer goes 4-0. Bernier has 1 shutout, Reimer has one shutout. Bernier had a GAA of 2.27 Reimer had a GAA of 2. Bernier had a save % of .863. Reimer had a save % of .966. Bernier starts the majority of games after this. One was ready, one knew he didn't have to be... After this Reimer's confidence was shot, he knew after this nothing he did would get the net back, it was quite clear...
And like Cherry said, the only reason he got to start now is because of Bernier's injury. He was essentially poorly handled by the club, as was Bernier who didn't have to truly earn the spot, and ended up having an entitled attitude... - aminnes

Reimer:

where did you get yours?
So far this season, they were each given their turn to run with it, and got swapped out whenever they had a bad game... the reason it may seem more skewed is because Bernier got the first start, and played well, so was given the next one too... and the sample size is pretty small to notice that back-and-forth. |

Thats the whole season. The point was that they gave Berny the net, October proves it, he started 9 and Reims got 5, even though Reims was the better tender. After that Remiers confidence is shot, and he is playing all the second of B to B and getting zero shots at taking the net back. Based on their starts it should have been Reimer getting the majority after the first month, but the club had already decided on Berny. They never should have made the trade and now we can all see the mistake it was to bring Bernier in and why LA had no problem trading him for a mediocre return. Babcock has been fair, where the previous regime was all in on Bernier. Although this regime did give Berny a ridiculous amount of money based on his accomplishments to that point...[/img] |

"(Reimer's) been given an opportunity -- or not even been given one, he's just taken one," said Babcock. |

scroll down.
It gives you a month by month breakdown.
October, Bernier started 8, Reimer started 6... but Bernier had to come in for him two games... and if you look at it game by game, Bernier and Reimer split who got the 2nd of the back-to-backs for the first half a season. |

If an NHL goalie loses his confidence to the point that he's no longer effective because he got less starts in a month than his teammate, then you should probably start looking for a goalie with a more robust psyche. |

Bernier still came out of the gate with a garbage save, and got starts. Either way, I'm glad the Carlyle Nonis dumbness is over... |

a garbage sv%?
He was .933 in the first month.
And unlike Reimer, he didn't get pulled twice. |

Frustrating thing the Leafs goaltending is. Both guys have at times played well, and other times, not so friggin much. Maybe they will try Reimer for 2/3 and Bernier for 1/3 of remaining season. Try and rebuild Bernier slowly. After all, they're not going to the playoffs.
I could see Lupul being a clutch goal scorer on a playoff team, he has that ability to score when needed, he just needs a better supporting cast. Retain some that salary in return for a young high asset. |

Reimer only got pulled once on the 5th against Ottawa... Reims had the better save and record and was already playing almost half the games. Essentially, all things being equal, Bernier was getting more starts. If I got may team to game seven of the first round when they had zero business being there, I would not be super confident when they bring in another goalie, and give him more starts despite playing as well or actually better. The combo of the trade, and then the subsequent playing time based on experience and history, adding the fact they paid the backup coming in more money, would send a clear signal you are not wanted. Now the new regime comes in and he knows if he outplays him, he might have a shot. Makes a difference... |

All right, I've heard enough about the goaltending situation. Neither will be here when it counts, so who cares ?? Finally there's a direction the franchise is taking and I welcome it after years of suffering. I'm 46 and haven't witnessed a TRUE tear down and rebuild through the draft. Years back I uses to counsel a good friend of mine because his beloved Hawks were the joke of the league. I don't have to tell you what they accomplished since and how they did it. I'll take three more years at the bottom of the standing to pick up some top end talent, develops them and insert when they are ready. The system is in the works and it seems as though the culture that they talk about is changing too. Ideally, they out work their opponent eveygame and lose by a goal. Stay the course and don't get fooled again !! |
