Most of the long term contract guys won't be traded... So they need to learn to play well so that they can help the young guys along.

The sooner they're on point, the sooner younger, more skilled guys can come up.

With how the lottery works there's really no reason to care about tanking much anymore honestly. It'd be sweet if they got Matthews but nope, not happening. Might as well just build the confidence of players like Reilly, etc by playing half decently since sucking to get a pick is a complete dice roll now.

At what point does the small increase in odds of getting a better pick offset the benefit of playing less poop and building player confidence though?
