why is it that anyone against making the nets bigger automatically gets labelled a "traditionalist" or being against some kind of progress? it has nothing to do with that. some of us just really enjoy the game as it is now and we don't see enlarging the nets as a way to make it better.

Maybe the word " tradition" has something to do with keeping things the way they are, or not changing. Not a bad word but perfect in this context.

Now if they want to talk making the puck smaller as a way to increase scoring....

Especially considering that thay change all kinds of other things in the game and no one cares! I agree 100% If anyone would take the 3 minutes to research how much the game has changed since its inception, the "traditionalist" excuse would have no relevancy at all.
everyone remember "no forward passing?"
yeah, neither do I. I don't think anyone jumped off a bridge in the name of "traditionalisim" about that one or anything that has changed since.

Like a micro-puck? That would be pretty cool. Put the highlighted circle around it like the old NHL games.

Don't these guys know scoring is easy? Cross crease pass. Or skate to the corner circle to the middle and wrist it top shelf.

Need to buy a couple of these guys some gaming systems and a copy of NHL 16

Tonight's d-pairings:
Gorges-Ristolainen
McCabe-Bogosian
Pysyk-Franson

I don't hate it, kinda wish they'd swap risto and bogo but im hoping they spread the ice time around equally. Don't really feel that pysyk deserves a reduction in ice time.

Sabres, in a shootout. Bogo and Reinhart in regulation, Moulson and ror in s/o.

Lindy gets a puck to the chin and needs stiches.

the shootout, 3 on 3 OT, full 2 minute penalties, real icing?
All these things have changed plus tons of other things that I don't even know about.
the NHL is in a tough spot because they don't want to become "soccer on ice" or "basketball on ice." I'd personally like to see a little more scoring, but im not sure 8-5 games would be any more entertaining.

Sabres 3 Stars 2

Eichel gets his first career hatty against a stars defence that is ironically unable to do just that.

Benn and Seguin get the other two because duh.

I for one do NOT need more scoring to be entertained by hockey, i think its the borderline hockey fans that they are trying to draw in. One think i hate, the review, NHL is not the NFL, they really need to re-visit that whole system in the offseason and get rid of it completely or make MAJOR changes to it. Including the offisides, being able to review something that happened 2 mins prior to a goal is outrageous. Plus if they are going to do that, and i have not seen anyone mention this, ALL of that time needs to go back on the clock. Because if they deemed that the goal is not allowed because play was over due to an offside than the play was dead and the goal is reversed and the time needs to be added back to the clock.

did you see the gretzky breakaway on smith video in the blog?

With today's technology, you absolutely can shrink the equipment size without increasing danger to goaltenders.

I feel like there's so many ways you can pair these guys up it's crazy.

I think I'd like to see:

Gorges - Bogosian
Pysyk - Ristolainen
McCabe - Franson

yes i saw the video. yes Smith looks very different than todays goalie.

My point is that everyone looks at that video and sees smith, but no mention of gretzky. no player looks like that today. no player uses a stick like that today.

changes in goalie equipment have been made to keep pace with the advancement of players gear and size and skill. most who suggest goalie/net changes speak as if goalies have become giants while the rest of the league is exactly the same.

its short sighted and prejudial. why under current regs do goalies have to use appropriately sized and proportioned pads that must be approved by the league in the sake of fairness- but nathan gerbe and tyler myers can use the same length stick???
