I'm not disagreeing with this. I'm not a fan of it either. It especially sucks because in 2 of the 3 games, the disallowed goal was a game tying goal fairly late in the 3rd period of the game and completely sucked the wind out of our sails.

I think it needs a lot of work. I'm not sure why every other rule change gets tested in the AHL first, but this one didn't. It could have really used a trial run before being implemented, that's for sure.

Defenitely needs work, or to be scrapped entirely

Above all else, i would have been ecstatic about this last season, and i am pissed about it this season. There is some solace in that

It sucks that this rule has cost us probably 2 points and possibly 4. The only way the league gets rid of it is if one of their golden teams has a playoff OT goal wiped out.

Even worse, a legit playoff OT goal is scored and the other teams coach challenges for the hell of it. He's just throwing a dart at the board and we all have to wait 5 more minutes for them to figure it out.

It's especially horrible being at the game. Don't get too excited about a goal because someone might have been offsides 30 seconds earlier!

That's exactly the problem. Might as well review all offsides. Say we get called for a penalty late in the game. Hey, make a rule where we can challenge if the play should have been whistled earlier because of offsides. All these things that lead to goals can decide games too.

A challenge should be for an obvious missed call by the refs, not for when a goal is scored and the other team then goes fishing to see if there's a chance it could be overturned, that's what coaches are doing now. If you don't believe me, check the tape, Lindy is talking to his assistant and shrugs, like he's saying "it's worth a shot".
- nikel

I hate to say it, but it was obvious. I saw it right away, and I was watching in 640x480 on like 1/4 of my 27" monitor. Not in 1080 on a 60" TV Was it blatant? No, but how many times have you thought you've seen a play go offside for it not to be called? But the one the other night was pretty bullpoop. I couldn't even see the puck because Eichel's blade was in the way. I was way more pissed about that one.

Offside is not a judgement call. Goalie interference is.

I miss the Sabres broadcasts Stupid streams have all been opposing teams lately.

I use gamecenter, as Im in California. They finally figured out that people want to watch their teams broadcast as well as the stuff that goes on in between periods.
I get it that they wont run ads because they're not getting any of the revenue, but I like to see the discussion between periods. Especially HNIC broadcasts on Saturday nights....

Icing too, to make sure the player actually gained center before shooting the puck in.

I don't recall one fan, one player, once coach or one hockey writer ever asking for this. No team ever cried when they got scored on that it was off sides :51 seconds earlier. Every penalty is a judgement call. Thousands of things per game affected the outcome, and we all understood that. Certainly the fringe fan wasn't reluctant to watch hockey because they couldn't relate to the sport because it lacked long, awkward, pointless instant replay reviews.

But offsides isn't a judgment call. There's no interpretation when applying the rule. Either the play was offside or it wasn't.

The linesman getting the call wrong doesn't make it a judgment call. It just makes it an incorrect call by the official.

Reinhart's disallowed goal was scored with 1:23 left in penalty. Play resumed with 1:23 left. So the NHL thinks it make sense to not put the time back on the clock? I never realized that before. Unreal.

Because they are (frank)ING STUPID

the (frank)in businessmen see the NFL making $$$ and think that by doing the same poop (replay) that the NHL can do the same....

....and if the offsides isn't a judgement call...put RF trackers in the pucks and uniforms and get rid of the linesmen....o wait...we wanna keep the facade of the human element

That's definitely a flaw with the rule. If the goal doesn't count because of the offside, then everything that occurred after the offside should also not count, including the time that ran.

I'm surprised because the rule for reviewing if a goal went into the net doesn't make this mistake. If the ref signals no goal on ice and play continues for several minutes before a whistle, they can go back and review the goal during the stoppage. If it's determined the puck actually went into the net after the review, then all the time that ran after the ref incorrectly signaled no goal is put back on the clock.

So, here's the scenario. Team scores with 3 seconds left to tie game. Coach challenges. Turns out they were offsides 45 seconds prior. Game resumes with faceoff outside the zone with 3 seconds left.

Which really makes no sense. Because if a goal gets scored but play doesn't stop because the refs don't think it was in the net (doesn't happen a lot, but we've all seen it before), the amount of time that elapsed after the "goal" was scored gets put back onto the clock. Whether the play continued on for 30 seconds or 3 minutes.

Classic NHL...doing everything half-assed.
Hey, at least Bettman made 9.5 million this year.

The bigger problem is apparently the few inches of sides in a fast game. Defending team and goalie can't overcome that.

Right. All or nothing. Review penalties, non calls, hand passes, pucks hitting netting, delay of game shots that might have been deflected, whether icing should have been called/waived off.

Offsides is objectively not a judgment call. I get the hate for the replay rule, especially the way it's been implemented thus far, but it does not help the argument against replay to say that offsides is something it isn't.

That's completely different. This would be the NFL equivalent of when a team scores a touchdown, the other team challenging if they false started 2 players earlier.
