It's not logic, it's fact
http://nerdhockey.com/by-...n-do-nhl-forwards-regress

"The meat of NHL players seem to fall within ages 21-29, with a nearly normal distribution on the frequency, peaking at age 25. Which may lead you to argue that a player doesn't hit their prime at age 27, but may in fact already be on the downswing of his career. Prime seems to be more from the ages of 23-26."

Facts have no place here

- sbroads24

Of course it's going to say that. 25 falls right in the middle of ages 21-29. That's just simple math based on the sample size.

You can twist any stat around to support your theory if you segregate certain information.

But where are you basing this off of? Where are you seeing that's the case? Especially since the majority of players don't even enter the league until closer to 25? yes, there are the guys that come in at 18, but there's far fewer of them than the other way around.

Kane was one of them wasn't he? he was full time by 19 years old

So Pat Kane and Toews are going to produce less this year as well? Because Kane is currently killing it.

1. All forwards are inconsitent scorers. There is no true consistent scorer outside of maybe Stamkos, P. Kane, & OV

2. E. Kane I assume is still shooting high and wide? Its bc of uses that stupid stick of his, longer than normal for a forward so he can get more snap on his shot. Its a heavy shot but not accurate.

I think hes messing up a few facts there, I believe there is data out there (too lazy to go find it) that forwards start to regress after 28...had more to around Crosby as gretzky, lemiuex, etc...guys that franchises were built around, didnt win a cup after 28 years old
- DDM-Coga

brad richards best year was at 30, stat wise
nash scored his most goals ever last year at 30
D sedin best year 29
H sedin best year 29

I have looked at 60 or so, aside from yzerman and mats sundin, his theory is way off, in fact the outliers are yzerman, not the norm

Kane is on the ice this morning? Ok! (dont think that means he plays soon, but I like hearing him progressing)

Saw that too... good to see he is testing out the knee already. Might do a few practices a week for a week or two to get conditioning in line for some no contact drills.

Sakic tossed up a 100 points as a 37 year old.

numbers are so easy to manipulate

I looked at 60 or so players, looks like they peak around 28, on average

again line mates, pp production, minutes on ice IMO has more to do with production then their age, when your talking about a player 22-32 years old

your first mistake is comparing Kane to Hall of fame caliber players.

They are outliers, not the normal.

Read the article, the average top 9 player peaks at 25

How have our boys Grigo and Zads been doing??

Saw Zads got sent down to be a top pairing guy. A smart movie rather than a 3rd pairing this year.

Haven't heard squat about Grigo

Dave Andreychuk got 54 goals at 30
53 goals at 31

by far his best production

damn rights he was. Just he had Yzerman and Modano at the same time as him, so really split up the fan base of who was your fav...really could only be a fan of 1 of them

No one is saying it's impossible for Kane to have a career year at 29 or 30.

The point is its unlikely for him to consistently do that after 25 years old.

WHEN DID I TALK ABOUT KANE??????????

honestly, if I had 100 hours to kill, I could write an article with charts and all kinds of poop, and then people would be saying the peak starts at 28

That's the problem right there. Your typical scorers are in your top 6, not your top 9. Yes, you look to the 3rd line for some production, but the dropoff between line 1 and 3 should (on a playoff caliber team) be fairly considerable.

I'm not saying that the information is completely wrong. It just seems like the basis of the data is slightly compromised. Instead of looking at the NHL as a whole, it segregated a certain age group and then segregated that group again based on what line they play on.

I feel like for it to be fully accurate, you either need to segregate out the "scorers," so your top 6, or use the full scope.

Plus, you're taking out defense this way as well.

I don't know. I just don't like it. It seems very convoluted the more I think about it.

Henrik Zetterberg had 87 points in the nhl for 140 game when he was 25 years old

after he peaked, he has already put up 716 points and been over a point per game player
