I don't know about that. Macdonald doesn't really do anything great. He is pretty much average across the board. I think they know that and in this type of season there is no harm in seeing Manning play. If he can be a 6_7 defenseman for cheap then money can be allocated to fix other needs.

What does Manning do that is great? Manning is below average in every area as an NHl defenseman.

They are already burning most of his cap space without him here, isn't the difference between the remainder and what Manning makes almost a wash? if so, might as well play the guy you are paying, since you can't bury his cap hit in the AHL anyway. I'd get it if Manning was head and shoulders above MacDonald, but it's so obviously not the case.

I agree Funmaster, at least with Mcdonald you get a very good shotblocker(was in not in the top 5 in the past 2 years), and that can be invaluable in my opinion.

Look back to the beginning of the season and the role the Bellemare line played on the forecheck, and spending time in the opposition end.

Manning would struggle to put up 10 points in a full season, let alone score 10 in 31 games like Gus did in 13-14.

I think it was time to demote Raffl, but I would have tried these lines. I think the 3rd line from today's practice is worryingly small.

I don't understand folks who want Gagner on the top line. The last thing G and Jake need is slow, pass first winger who won't win much, if any, puck battles in the corners.
