Bingo. Perhaps Duchene was a bad example but i think they need to add one more. they can't do it all on their own.

A true winger, the one guy I am curious about is Boedker with the Yotes. They are playing great but hes a UFA next season and will get a big pay day.

Wonder if the Yotes will anti up to pay for him.

Our 1st round pick this year. Ullmark potentially. Wouldn't rule out McCabe if it lands them a top 2 guy. Ditto Girgensons.
- Sabresfan-365

I'd rather see the ceiling on those two.

Although I really don't see the need to have all 3 of Girgensons, Reinhart and ROR. I know they aren't the exact same player, but I think they all have the same attributes where one could be moved potentially for a more dynamic forward or defensemen

Fun fact he was my local MP for many years. Had the great pleasure of meeting him when i was younger, just an all around great/knowledgable guy
- Sabresfan-365

That's fantastic. Dryden was smart as a whip, had a Cornell education and wow could he play between the pipes. His career was short, think he had other career objectives in mind. One of my favorite goalies growing up.

Interesting fact- his brother Dave played goal for the Sabres for a few years in the 70's. A brother goalie combo in the NHL. As a matter of fact, they might have faced each other. Not sure that ever happened in NHL history.

Really?! can't believe i never came across this. You're probably right, there was that one game the sens played the devils in brodeur vs brodeur matchup but i believe that was his nephew? Can't remember exactly tbh.

Hey if it lands me a guy like Vlasic (frank) there ceiling. We've already committed so much to moving this forward there's no point in stopping the train now

It doesn't matter since we're not moving any of them for Duchene. We're giving up Bagosian, Webber and next year's first.

I think he's a deadline day deal but they do have to spend to floor.

They have a lot of UFAs and RFAs that are up next season, depend no their internal budget, could be interesting to watch.

But that bum Doan is a UFA, so who knows if he plans on coming back or not. Maybe Doan to the Sabres could finally happen

He will sign in Toronto to fulfill his life long dream for 1 season and then take a trade at the deadline.

No Doan is too much of a head case for that, he will force the Yotes to resign him for something dumb like 4m deal.

Exactly. My guess would be not only would it take Risto, but Bailey would probably be part of the asking price as well, since the rumors after the ROR trade went down were saying they wanted Bailey as part of that.
- HonkFortheGoose

We trade Risto for Duchene and the rebuild is over, we'll be the oilers of the East losing by at least 5 goals a game. Risto is are real only top line d-man. Pysyk, McCabe, Bogo are all 3-4 guys.

I think Pysyk has the ability to be a #2. His skating ability will allow him to play big minutes. He quietly goes out there and plays a solid game so most people don't realize just how good he really is.

I just don't know that i like the idea of having him on the left, even though he played that side all year in Rochester.

I haven't actually had an issue with Gorges paired with Risto right now either, so I'd rather just leave that pair alone for now.

Fine Duchene and Barrie for Girgensons & Ristolainen.
Thats a kind of trade that everyones reaction would be what the (frank) is going on, ok well lets roll and see what happens

I think McCabe could be the future #2, if his game continues to improve.

He has the highest ceiling of anyone not named Ristolainen

We've got a lot of good young ones. If we have Pysyk as part of the 2nd pair, I think that means we're doing really well to be quite honest. In a lot of ways, I think he could be our Hjalmarsson. He doesn't play quite the same style, but he is an all purpose guy that is dependable in every aspect of the game.

Dave Dryden and ken Dryden were brothers and goalies in the NHL. Dave played 110 games for the Sabres from 1971-1974 and his best season was 72-73 when he had a 2.65 gaa and 3 shutoiuts.

edit- On March 20, 1971 in a game between the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens, Dave faced his brother Ken, the only time in NHL history that brothers opposed each other in an NHL game.

sabres draft picks coming up

2016 extra third for enroth
2016 extra third form miller
2016 extra 5th from habs for flynn
2016 extra 7th from habs for mitchell

2017 extra 2nd from wild for stewart

in essence there is a second and 2 thirds to trade for assets or plug 3 more players in the pipeline, and a couple of extra lottery tickets for goalies and euros

A. they need to figure out if ROR is going to be a center long term or on the wing
B. then they need to figure out if the skunk is going to be a center long term or on the wing
c. then they need to figure out if girgens is going to be a center long term or on the wing
d. then and only then they need to figure out if larsson is a fixture as a third line center

this puts ennis, and maybe moulson on the trading block if girgens and the skunk are on wing

plus gionta can't retire fast enough, IMO he (ice time) is holding the kids back

A. ROR is so good on the dot, I'd keep him as a C.
B. I like skunk on the wing, impressed with his play along the wall. He works at RW for me.
C. Girgs could be trade bait for a LD, maybe.
D. Not a huge fan of Larsson so it doesn't matter to me much where he's at.

I'd keep Ennis and look at moving Girgs if that's a plausible option. Gionta is garbage. Unfortunately he's the captain but only has one year left on his contract. ROR will be our Captain. During a timeout last night he was in front of the bench chirping at everybody within ear shot. I liked that.
