Does the emergence of Ullmark make the Lehner trade look that much worse? i think so

Not yet imo. Only has been a few games. Enroth and Biron at one time went on winning streaks and we thought they were the IT goalie.

on the flip side.. if we win in '99 dom gets the smythe and its him
- IndianaSabresFan

Most on here already think it's Dom anyway. I like to look at what both brought to this organization having seen both play. I don't think Perreault gets enough credit for what he did on this board.

If this is the case then bye bye Lehner (which won't happen) you cannot trade Ullmark. I think he will only get better as he gets used to the NHL ice. I mean things can change in a heart beat, but i really like him a lot.

i get that.. but that has a lot to do with when he played. I never saw him play, its hard to make that comparison with never seeing that player on the ice live

It could but it's probably Dom as #1 and Bert as #2.

Gotcha. I'm just attempting to point out the greatness of #11 that most here don't know about.

I agree with this . Tough to classify either of them. They play opposites in the game.

I could say the same about Lehner....In your opinion who has more potential Ullmark or Lehner?

Lots of the inconsistency could have been worked out by giving him steady starts.

No. Because if they had said going into this year, they were going to go with Ullmark as the goalie, the fan base would have lost their minds.

He had DOUBLE hip surgery in April. Had 0 NHL game experience and had played all of his professional hockey in Europe. I didn't think he'd even be ready to see the ice for a game until late this month at the earliest. The fact that he was pretty much ready to go at the start of the season was impressive.

He's still working on figuring out his angles here. You can see he's used to there being a lot more real estate for the guys to work with. He takes a much harsher angle toward guys when they're off to the side than you typically see in the NHL. That plays into him being used to there being a larger ice surface. He'll figure it out. Just as teams will figure out his weak spots now that there's some tape on him.

I'm not convinced Enroth isn't a starter for the right team.

He currently has 2 goals against for 3 games played this year....albeit not a huge sample size.

I think that most people's opinion label Dom as the greatest goalie of all time gives him the nod of 11 just because he has never been considered the greatest player during any one season let alone of all time.

2 Harts is hard to beat if you didn't even win a scoring title ya know?

- Stripes77

This. I did see the last few years of Perreault and even at that age he was still fantastic. There isn't any shame in being trumped by the guy that many consider to be the greatest at his position. I don't know that Perreault cracks the top 15 at his position.

Lehner at the moment. Ullmark is a bigger question mark still. Ullmark has only been in North America for a few months. Lehner has worked his way up and has been successful at the AHL level and injuries derailed his NHL career but it was off to a great start.

IF and that's a big IF Ullmark establishes himself in the next month as a true number 1 goalie it does make that trade look bad but at the time Ullmark was a huge unknown. Even more than he is now.

Not many people liked the Lehner trade, however I don't think GMTM would change his mind since Ullmark was a huge unknown.

I remember Miller saying that if he was flopping around then there was a problem in his game. Ullmark always feels like he is about to give up a few goals but he holds strong. The good news is that he makes the tough saves. I think he can be taught to be in better control of his game.
