The Calgary Flames have acquired Kevin Poulin from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Lightning will receive future considerations in exchange for the goalie. This is a depth move for Calgary, as evidenced by the fact that they immediately sent Poulin to the minors. Poulin has a 3.07 GAA and .899 save percentage in 50 career NHL games.

It's not frugal it just doesn't make sense. The guy is past his best days and it's unlikely he'll be able to maintain his crazy high shooting percentage. That contract will pay him 4 mil between 32-35. It's basically dead cap space.

The issue is it's unlikely he continues to do so.

Committing this much to a guy who is basically replaceable at the deadline with a 2nd round pick doesn't make much sense.
