Glad Mashinter gets a called up, don't know why everyone is thinking he is a showcase for a trade. He's already a known commodity he's not a young prospect. He's getting called up because he's played really good in the A and he is a big physical body who will stand in front of the net and throw his weight around and drop the gloves to provide a spark or to stand up for a teammate. Give him 7 min a night and see what he can do. I'm surprised Desi is in the lineup he hasn't been good all year and is slow. I would have Garbutt or shaw on the line with him and Kruger.

That is the key Jimmy, wake this dead ass team up, the CAPTIAN having to be the one riding shot gun!I fricken hope that Mashinter and Reaves line up Sat. Marleau at $6.5 mill per for 2 more years...That's tough to swallow especially if they have to give up a really young player like TT. Don't think I would do it...
- Al

If he is at $6.5, the price has to be another roster player besides Bickell and TT (and a prospect), doesn't it?

Doesn't sound right, but I thought I saw a blurb watching Habs and Pens saying this would be the first time Pittsburgh had won after being behind after the 2nd period since January, 2014: 0-37 until tonite.
- StLBravesFan

Only reason it sounds odd is becasue they have been pretty good since then...But even the best teams only win a handful of games each year when trailing after 2. But I wouldn't have thought Pitt would have such a bad record.

Yes unless SJ retains money....They are another team that doesn't throw money around and they are pretty much hung with Thornton and Marleau.

The Captain's fight against NJ really woke the team up, didn't it?

Why should a Mashinter - Reaves fight do any better?

Beyond your point...Why would any added incentive be needed after the way the Blues stole two points at the UC recently?

Pads were Thompsons, had them shipped down from CAN, the old horse hair filled ones. Pants were either CCM or Cooper. White Bauer skates, just like Bernie. I loved those skates.

Espo's guy made my mask. Pre cage, it was the old form fitting kind, looked just like the one JimCraig wore. Caught a puck in the eye my Soph year, ended my career.

Ouch. Back in the day every goalies worst nightmare, besides getting killed, was losing an eye or eyesight.

For those of us who grew up with glasses we didn't have a choice but to use a cage. No eye injuries with those things. But those old pre cage masks looked so cool. Especially the way guys personalized them.

Michel Dumas lost the sight in one eye playing goalie with the Hawks....I think it may have been at a practice.

I'm not a professor, how do I know, The fricken game as a whole is turning soooo bland, and the argument about "the stars" and the beauty of the game ect. Ect. Ect. Doesn't hold water , pretty soon the game will be totally no check, like I had said before, it will become "the worlds best no check beer league" type hockey. And last I looked, there was fighting in the game in the 80's like some of us so called dinosaurs remember, but we also remember that the game also has the worlds best player to this day playing the game, if anyone is old enough to remember.... His name is Wayne Gretzky, and he also had guys like Dave Semenko and Marty McSorley riding shot gun for him!

My guess is the price for Marleau would be Bickell, a player like Shaw or TT and a prospect.

Which basically amounts to a player, a prospect and a problem (cap hit). If TT were included, the Hawks would probably get something else back as well, a pick probably.

Pure speculation. But something like that for Marleau or Marleau+.

It would be a move meant to fill a need with a predictably productive veteran and make another run this year and next. And it would be at the cost of some futures.

Not saying they will or should but it would also not surprise me completely.

- John Jaeckel

I can't see Wilson taking back Bickell and Shaw in a trade for Marleau unless he's writing off this season and is starting a rebuild, and in that case he would want TT instead of Shaw - and then the Cap doesn't work. This is a slim and none thing and slim is mounting up.

Al, what used to happen when the Hawks would piss up a lead and Get embarrassed in their own building in front of their own fans when Denis Savard or Roenick was playing?either Secord or Chelios would get pissed off and ring some one up, that usually got the team going. ....Not in today's game, these kids make too much money and really could give 2(frank)s some nights, they just let it roll off their backs, other than Toews and maybe Hossa and Seabrooke, who else do you see playing with that eternal fire. Norway that Blues game and some others that had half assed efforts shouldn't be the norm this early in the season. I welcome a fricken trade of consequence, Hopefully The SJ thing has some legs to it. We lost too much in the summer , Stoshu dropped the ball on the Sharp trade, not dealing Bickell early, and the book still open on the Saad trade. The Hawks for years will be searching for that big power forward to play with Toews. Which was supposed to be......Saad!Marco Dano ='s Alain Daigle.while Saad will go on to have multiple 30 and 40 goal season down the road ,may not be with the Jackets, Someone like the Blues will pry him out of Columbus . Al, I am still shakin my head over the pieces minus AA that came back this way in that deal, couldn't have been a kid like Boone Jenner and Dalton Prout instead of the 2others we got back. Hopefully it works out for the Hawks, but I have my doubts on the jackets deal.

Well you are bringing up hockey played in an era where scores could be anything from 2-0 to 9-7 and players held grudges long term and Pier 6 brawls were a way of letting off steam. And actual policeman occasionally had to sit in the penalty box to make sure things didn't get totally out of hand.

But all of that was before NY lawyers and bean counters took over and showed us all the proper way the game should be played. Now it takes years to decide goalie equipment needs to be made smaller because lack of goal scoring is a problem.

Just a different era, not as fun a league to watch.

I agree. I wish a goalie today would wear those old style masks once in a while. I liked how you always know who was in goal when you saw the mask - no numbers needed.

I hear what your saying but those days are gone...I think even if the return for Saad is only AA that's okay considering they would have lost Saad for draft picks.

The bigger issue is having to take Daley for $400k less than Oduya...It's early but so far Daley has been exactly what the Hawks don't need. A veteran dman who has been inconsistent from game to game....Oduya's TOI tells what Q thinks of him...He goes from 10-12 mins a game to 20 back down to 12 or so.

Right now if I'm Bowman and I wanted to make a significant deal I would look to trade Daley and hang on tight until around the end of January and then make a decent pickup for a playoff run. But that can't happen without at least a semi healthy Roszy.

The offense will continue to struggle until the dmen can trigger the transition game. So far I can count the number of good passes Daley has made on one hand...And I wouldn't need all my fingers.

10 minutes vs LA; 12 and change vs ST.Louis; 13 vs Edmonton.

I don't think Q is liking what he is seeing so far.

Not because I have been correct so far on TVR playing higher up in the batting order than Daley...But he is not only behind TVR but also one if not two rookies on many nights.

If they need to call up Mashinter to strut his stuff then what is Desi doing on the roster?
He's up because Garbutt is out and he may deserve to be rewarded but I bet he is also here to show his stuff. The last thing this team needs is another 4th line player to cling to especially at 27.

- Al

...and because Shaw was trapped on that checking line and Toews line needs a jumpstart?

I could see Shaw playing on the top line for a bit but the offense is not going to thrive without good outlets from the dmen. One would think a trade is coming and I don't Bowman will wait too long.

Teams that are out of the playoffs on the Friday morning after Thanksgiving miss the dance around 80% of the time.

Any team willing to trade an NHL defenceman should be able to find a partner. So many teams looking for something to add to their blueline.

But trading Daley so early on shines a light on Stanbo for the trade and loss of Oduya over what looks like $500K.

When JJ mentioned the Sharks as a trade partner earlier this week, I was hoping it was Marleau, that's why I asked if the priority was a forward or a defenseman. I'd love to see him as the 1L LW!

The only thing about bringing him in now is the second guessing Stan will get; why not just keep Saad? Why not just keep Sharp? Because it didn't work out that way then, moving on.

Trading Daley would be fine with me too, fwiw. seems like an upgrade is needed there. Same second guessing will follow, why not just keep Oduya? Same answer, because it didn't work out that way, moving on.

If 1L LW and 4th top 4 defenseman get acquired, and Rozy comes back, the attention would turn to getting the 3rd and 4th lines going.

Another cup run sounds fun to me!

He's a useless plug with hands of stone. He's a poor man's Ben Eager...without the scoring touch.

The Sharp trade is shaping up to be Stan's worst yet.

You people on this site holding out hope for a Roszival return really crack me up!!!!!

He is FINISHED as an NHL player (see Handzus). He was finished last year - and now coming back from a badly broken leg - he wlll be even more finished. Why all you supposed "hockey experts" can't see this is really laughable!!!!!!

I think Mash might be up as a showcase. I don't know why. Just a feeling. I think there might be a trade coming.

Seems weird to have Garbutt, who has been one of the best Hawks thus far, a healthy scratch for the past few games.

It was reported on the Score that Garbutt is scratched due to the flu. He has not practiced all week.

5 days off the ice is the rationale being offered for keeping him out for another game. I'm with Al here the Mash call up feels like he's being showcased. Maybe a reward playing with the big club for good play but maybe that good play and the Hawks overload at bottom 6 F have gotten him noticed too?
