Giroux, Voracek and couts are all good players, but they are not elite and they are not guys you build your franchise around. The last guy like that this team had was chris pronger, a that when he stepped on the ice, the other 4 guys instantly got better. that's elite, that's what you build your franchise around.

Look, I get it. You're upset. You're emotional. But come on, to say that Giroux is not elite is just ludicrous. Same with Jake.

The problem is 1) they're putting too much pressure on themselves. 2) There is no real secondary threat so teams can key on them.

They desperately need a second line that can generate offense off the rush. Couturier is just not the guy. I would have tried Schenn there, but realistically, they really need to upgrade. It's why I wanted Strome or Barzal at the draft (though I'm thrilled with Provorov too).

My big concern is that Hextall is locked into Couturier and Laughton. Giving them a shot is fine. But if he fixates on that combination thinking he is closer than he is (meaning, needs to trade fewer pieces) then I think we're in trouble.

have you ever seen a movie theater reduce ticket prices because the movie sucks?
- funmaster18

No, but no one pays season tickets to a movie theater.
And there are no movies that just "suck", as a fact, its opinion.
It's just not easy to deal with this as a fan.

Those movies are removed from theaters, so not quite an equivalent.

Regardless, I think the price of Flyers tickets has come down quite a bit...

First line production and inconsistency in defense is all what TROUBLES the Flyers this year.I don't think they need any upgrade as simple there is no money

The whole roster is a bad mix. Couturier is a second line center. But god he needs wings. Simmonds just doesn't provide much unless on pp and this season that isn't much. The toptop guys need to play better. This will be an important TDL as they could move money and possibly bring in some youth. Next season is when you might see the true plan start to shape.

My main issue with this team is the seeming lack of effort and generally lack of preparedness. Secondarily, this team does not have any players that are a must watch night in and night out. I love Giroux but some nights it seems as if he is invisible. I believe that has more to do with the team around him than his skill set. Either way the games are boring and for the most part completely predictable.

I just want something to get excited about. For the last 2-3 seasons not much about this team has been exciting.

I am just tired of making the effort to watch this team when they seemingly are not making any effort to better themselves.

Yeah, but is lack of 1st line production a cause or a symptom? Maybe a little of both. A couple of years ago, if the G line struggled, Briere/Leino/Hartnell would pick up the slack. They haven't had a real threat in a couple of years now.

Yes, last year the G line was very productive. For a long stretch. And then teams caught on and were a bit more effective stopping them. So find a second line, the 1st line will emerge as well.

It's been a minimum of 3 years and 3 different coaches at the helm and the Flyers continue to start games slowly. When is managment going to realize its the players? Have adjustments been made to the players pre-game preperations? And I don't want to hear that the pre-game skate has been moved to the WFC. What are the players doing 2-3 hours before the game, leading up to the start of the game to mentally prepare for the start? Still playing basketball and soccer in the bowels of the arena?

This team drastically lacks talent upfront (hopefully blueline talent is coming). This team looks like a complete rebuild, nobody should be untouchable. I'm a big fan of Giroux, Voracek, & Simmonds, however with the blueline talent being years away from contributing the team maybe better off moving some or all of these guys in their primes for prospects that will be maturing and peaking at the same time as the young dmen.

It's definitely the team around him and Jake. Its a team game and two players cant just go out and create magic without players getting open, getting the puck up ice on the back end, winning board battles, crashing the net. All of this is non existent right now.

I agree, but as long as people keep buying them, why would they lower prices?

This team is stuck in no man’s land. If they really truly want to rebuild it needs to be stripped down completely. Whether you finish 5th or last in the division means nothing. The parts they have do not work. That is as clear as day. They lack talent up and down the lineup. It is full of average players overall.

There are so many pieces on this team that need to be moved out. Individually they have players that have value to other team’s imo. Hextall/Holmgren overrated players on this roster. They need to be moved while they still have value. Claude and jake will be past their prime when this team is ready, if ever in the near future, to contend. Certain players like read if you have to sell low now then so be it.

Tired of the excuse that vinny, amac, and umberger they and their contracts are holding this team back. While there is some truth to it is a lame scapegoat excuse.

What has Couturier shown to make you think that? Have you seen Couturier make amazing passes where his wingers are just blowing the shot? Because that would be a symptom of great center/bad wingers.

I see a guy that, offensively, is slightly above average but is just clearly not going to be the catalyst - word of the day - to raise his linemate's game.

In response to MOAT

I think 4 points, but we'd need to leapfrog like 12 teams.

Pathetic.

Manning shouldn't be in the NHL, I don't care who they call up and I know he's not the reason for everything gone wrong but to continue to play this guy is insanity.

I was thinking about this last night. What we fans seem to think should happen to the roster as opposed to Mr Snider,is night and day.

That man is always going to think we're contenders and a player or 2 away, while us and maybe even Hextall see a long LONG road ahead.

I often wonder how much leverage Snider gives Hextall? Would he go bonkers if Hexy just said "(frank) it" and really shake things up?

the flyers are by far the least creative team I have seen or remember seeing in a long time. they create next to nothing. the lack of skill is sad.

hextall gets a pass though. all part of his plan.

rather see what Alt has to offer than manning at this point. Ghost will get his chance in due time. nothing to lose playing Alt over manning. see what you have.

The GM/owner has stripped them down to bare bones, added a bunch of cast offs and misfits -- it's almost as if the brass is trying to assemble the worst team ever on purpose!

What this team needs is some good ol' fashioned motivation... something to get this rag tag group to come together and get thirsty for wins again.... might I suggest, an Ed Snider version of this?

That pie is half-baked at this point. Ghost hasn't exactly been lighting it up with the Phantoms. He's not going to make this team a playoff contender either. Unfortunately that lost year really slowed his development.

Voracek has had one elite season thus far in his career. He just got paid a boatload of money based on that one year. Flyers better hope he's a 70-80 point player for the money they gave him.
