Probably too soon, but at the very least should be considered for a few players.

I really hate this defense creates offense system. I wonder if the forwards do too. They had more jam under Lavi in an attackng system.

i'm content to wait till the deadline now... i expect upwards of 15 new names on this team next year.

the core of this team is on it's third coach. I don't care about systems. Systems don't make you come out and play like a wet noodle in front of your home crowd after such a god awful road trip.

They don't need to change up that many players. They still have good pieces. They need some catalysts. That's probably a good way to think about this team....lacking catalysts. And like chemistry, a catalyst can cause a positive reaction in the other components.

i know one thing, past night was a death thro of caring for me... apathy has completely set in for me. Can't waste my time getting upset. They came out strong to start the season now this. just can't with this group of players anymore. This is beyond inconsistent and growing pains.

They are deflated right now. No jump in their step. No confidence that they can put the puck in the net. That will make you play like a wet noodle in an arena full of Playboy Playmates.

Except MDZ of course.

what good pieces exactly? I'm sorry but at some point good pieces have to show dominance at 5 on 5 this team has not done that for any significant stretch recently. They struggled eith it last year, the year before and were slipping the year before that.

I stopped getting upset........I knew with what Hextall said when he took over that it would require patience & wouldn't be a swift transition.

G and Jake are good pieces. They need their confidence back. More importantly, they need someone who can carry their weight on the other side.

Couts is a good piece. But he needs to play 3C. With some talented wingers mind you. I still want some offense. Schenn and Raffl with Couts would make a great 3rd line. Average second line.

The second line is a mess. But they have Konecny, maybe next year. And they have Simmonds, Laughton as the prime trade bait. They have other players like Gagner and Read that could draw some interest. And a couple of D to trade.

They just need to realize that some drastic moves need to be made.

The GM/owner has stripped them down to bare bones, added a bunch of cast offs and misfits -- it's almost as if the brass is trying to assemble the worst team ever on purpose!

What this team needs is some good ol' fashioned motivation... something to get this rag tag group to come together and get thirsty for wins again.... might I suggest, an Ed Snider version of this?

Me too. This season is playing out almost exactly as I predicted. Lack of scoring. Up and down play. Bottom third of the league.

Giroux, Voracek and couts are all good players, but they are not elite and they are not guys you build your franchise around. The last guy like that this team had was chris pronger, a that when he stepped on the ice, the other 4 guys instantly got better. that's elite, that's what you build your franchise around.

did we really expect a playoff team this year? I still think we are in for at least another year not including this year as a crap show. I dont think we are bad enough to grab a top five pick but now I dont know. How I see it just on the forward group alone we need a crap load of players. At least a first line lw and second line lw. We need to figure out the 2c. Coots isnt it and I have no clue how B schenn would play in that spot. So as of right now I saw we need a 2c. At the 3c we have laughton and coots that can fit in that postion. Maybe throw laughton AT 4C, trade one of them as well.

On d...well...thats a rough one. We are not getting a 1d in fa or trade. So lets cross that off the list. Best we can hope for is a group of 6 with talent. I wish we had a 1d in our pipeline but thats really optimistic at this point but id gladly take a group of 6 with 3/4 throughout then the poop show we have now.

So with this mentality ...whats the reaction to the other 4 players when vinny hits the ice?

Great comment! I think they need more swagger (i.e. Pronger, Jagar, even Emery). The problem is that you do NOT want to trade away youth to get it. And you want to trade for youth if possible with the longer term plan of this team. Buff or Phenuef would be obvious canadates for swagger but not youth and would cost youth. I think you look for a Matt Read for Merchant type trade. Not that trade exactly but something minor-ish, swapping mid age guy for mid age guy where confidence is coming back. You still suck this year but hope the effort is better, currently the effort is inexcusable.
