That's what I think he is too. But if that is your 2nd line production, and Laughton is anchoring your 3rd line with production that tops out in the 30-40 range, you'll continue to have a team that will struggle offensively.

Everyone jumps on me when I say I want a 2nd line center that could score 60-70 points because they focus on the upper end and then compare those totals to others in the league. My argument is about potential. Did Briere score 60-70 every year? No. But he could in any year.

Maybe Couturier and Laughton could score 50 and 40 respectively, which is not bad at all. But they could easily top out at 35 and 25 in any year too. That's not gonna get it done in my book.

and maybe adding talent to the wings would help too. Would putting guy like Konecny, a playmaker maybe add ten or so points to couturier. Maybe an elite sniper adds some more assits. There are a lot of things that could change point totals. Yes. Couturier isn't someone who will probably take over a game like toews or Kane or Crosby or malkin. But look at toews point totals. He is the first line center. Where does he rank in league.

Remember when we had Hartsy, Briere, Kimmo, and Jagr? Lethal doses of personality up in there.

I wouldn't advocate making a big move now. I would look to trade Streit and some of the lesser pieces at the deadline then do something in the offseason. There is just so much uncertainty for this team this coming offseason.
- PhillySportsGuy

I'm not saying it has to be done now either. More importantly, Hextall is not likely going to make a major trade like that right now either. He's not reacting the way we are here.

He's probably thinking more that they're only out of the playoffs by 4 points with his all-star 1st line playing like crap, and his 2nd line center just returning from a concussion. Oh, and a new coach who is figuring things out, and the players still absorbing a new system. And 60+ games to go.

The most likely short-term move is to trade someone for a little more cap room.

This team is a lot less likable without Hartnell

I hear ya. I just want somebody with more all around speed and offensive skill to center one of our top 3 lines.

And I look at it and want more speed and skills on his wing. When does Simmonds and read start contributing to the cause.
That's why I think getting a skilled play making winger for couturier would create a good line.

I think their biggest problem is that they don't score as many goals as their opponent does so they lose games.

Wrong..biggest problem, as per CORSIADAVNECEDMETRICS, is that the other team scores more goals than they do..

uh..wait.

Flat footed, no or lack of effort, slow starting etc.... Is the coach just way out of his league? Does this team need new leadership? How many season and coaches has this been going on. It is sad that professional athletes do these things on a regular basis. This team is very hard to watch or even like.

Or the obvious answers of not enough talent and the wrong mix for the little talent they have.

Honestly if it was Scotty Bowman in there right now with this stuff it wouldnt be much different.

no coach can teach speed. I think speed can make up for the skill level to a degree (at least, to mix in a couple of goals and wins occasionally ). Lack of skill AND speed seems to be an insurmountable obstacle

So Streit says the goal scored 57 seconds into the game "stunned" them. Ok, but you have 59:03 left to still play. IT WASN'T SUDDEN DEATH.

My word this team is feeble if that stuns them that much.

- hockeylover

Hahaaaa. I know!!!! I was gonna post on this and forget.

1 bad goal. Alright guess it's not our night boys lets pack it in.

Seriously this train might not completely be off the rails yet. I'm loving it. Firesale a coming
