I understand that's how things used to be, but they are much different now. Puck moving defenseman never used to be a thing. Enforcers used to be a thing. Checking lines used to be a thing. - YuenglingJagr
Some of us are older. We still believe in Santa, milk delivery and checking lines. |

Does getting rid of Holmgren get rid of all the bad contracts? No? Okay then what is the big deal. There were a couple of moves that really screwed the team in its current state, but he did a lot of good for the organization. What if Pronger doesn't get hurt and what if the salary cap doesn't collapse? - YuenglingJagr
The what if game? Seriously? |

Guess it is a matter of perspective. If you look at how he has been used that is not really what the team has asked of him though. That's what the fans want. Berube pretty much used him as a shutdown guy. And he plays with guys like Umberger. - YuenglingJagr
I just feel like he maximizes his value to the team if he can be used as a 3C with another offensive 2C coming in in front of him. I can see how that is viewed as maximizing his personal potential. I just don't think there is enough fire power on the wings to use him as a 2C. |

You must be new here. Blaming Homer is kind of his thing. - PhillySportsGuy
Holmgren's entire resume with the Flyers was based on beating the Rags in a shootout.
The guy left his post as GM with this franchise in ruins. |

the only team that might float with off the top of my head is phoenix...they have plenty of cap space. would still need to eat some $ or take lesser bad contract back. - rinaldo
It's a decent, if somewhat overpaid 2nd pair guy and you're swapping a 4th rounder for a 2nd. I think anyone with substantial cap room would be interested.
Would anyone really be upset swapping a 2nd for a 4th if it means ridding ourselves of that contract? |

Yo guys I have a bad feeling Han Solo is going to die in The Force Awakens. He's being so heavily promoted relative to everyone else, not to mention the trailer seems to be placing him in the film's Obi Wan/Qui-Gon mentor role to start the trilogy...which could mean impending death. It would definitely be a galvanizing plot device.
I'm going to run this by Ek. His sources currently have the new Empire, the "First Order," looking to trade for Big Buff. This is not good news for our heroes if true. |

No Han death rumor so you're probably wrong.

Yes I am serious. You are acting like his current position is completely unwarranted. His method of trying to replace Pronger or repeatedly being a contender was unsustainable which is why he needed to go as he did. |

Not even a crazy idea tho imo tbh. It's actually plausible. It would be a terrific plot device to create an attachment to the new trilogy and new heroes and villains. Killing a beloved geriatric character is one of the oldest plot devices in the book. Or movie. |

Not to inject myself too much into the Coots 2C/3C debate....but some of you say this; some of you say that. What if you're both right? Then he's a 2C+3C=5C. Vinny Lecavalier is also a 5C. So Coots is Vinny. Glad I could clear this up for everyone. |

Seriously this train might not completely be off the rails yet. I'm loving it. Firesale a coming - Just5
I don't even get that upset with them anymore. And I was a guy who could go through a remote control a year watching them. I'd say I've just mellowed, but I just don't care as much. |

I would love it. I dont think any GM would take on 5 years/25 million for moving up 2 rounds in the draft though.
Hopefully if they bring him up he can prove to be worth 3 million a year |

Nope. #1 rated prospect in hockey on sites before this draft. Would you trade him for a 2/3 line tweener and a 3c? - ImThatGuy
I agree with you. That was a somewhat saracastic reply because another poster minimized Reinhart's value.
But you are also minimizing Simmonds and Laughton a little too. |

Bill Meltzer: Wrapup: Flat-Footed Flyers Fall to Avalanche, 4-0 - bmeltzer
After watching last night's complete waste of time, my view of this team could be summed up to one trade. The Scott Hartnell for RJ Umberger trade. Last night should have been a contest in which, you are already down 4 to zip early in the 3rd on your own home ice, a Wayne Simmonds, a Radko Gudas, a Ryan White or a Luke Schenn needs to stir the pot. Make no mistake that a Scott Hartnell in that situation will accidently on purpose upset an opposing player and get into a fight to round up the troops. Guys like Chris Vandevelde and RJ Umberger to me are just so vanilla, so plain, they just create an uninteresting brand of hockey. By trading a Scott Hartnell, you take the emotion out of the team. By bringing in RJ Umberger you get exactly what we're seeing today. I actually fooled myself into believing that one or two guys were going to mix it up last night.
There is no question in my mind that in time we will get better with the A+ drafting we've received in recent years but it almost seems hypocritical for Ron Hextall and Craig Berube to expect the Flyers to play with discipline. Both players were anything but... |

Good news: Going to the game on 11/23 where Brind'amour is being honored!
Bad news: having to actually watch these ass clowns attempt to play hockey. |

One day after an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Colorado, things seemed worse for the 5-7-3 Flyers.
Goalie Michal Neuvirth, who played the entire game Tuesday night, had to visit a doctor; Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Mark Streit had to leave practice early for unknown reasons, and R.J. Umberger missed his third straight practice for an undisclosed injury.

At this point, I'm prepared to wish for another top 10 pick and one more year until we move on from Vinny and Umberger. Luke Schenn and Sam Gagner will be off the books as well, so I'm expecting a dramatically different look next season. There are positives here. If we trade Streit this season, you make room for Morin, Sanheim and Provorov next season if they're ready. Del Zotto might be on his way out also after last season's arbitration. |

To trade Giroux and Voracek. I'm not going to swing one way or another but if they do ship them out.
Laughing stock of the league. Kiss of death to sign a long term deal with this club. |
