top three picks are all going to be through the lottery
- Michael Pachla

Does that keep a team from winning first multiple times if they keep finishing at the bottom?

Ugh. I can still hear the horrible Schony record in my head. We had it, and my sister played it to death. I can still hear the awfulness that was "YOU ALWAYS HURT THE ONE YOU LOVE" even after all of these years. Make it stop, dear Lord, made the hurting stop ...

There's only so much awesome the human mind can handle at once. It's just too bad I can't find "I Saw Her Standing There", "Great Balls of Fire" or "Hey Bulldog"...

the only excuse I could understand the league giving for the "Edmonton effect" is that if you pick that many 1sts and 2nds and they're good, you can't possibly pay them all anyway down the road...

The rub with that argument, is if the internet was around back then, his picks most likely would not have been as terrible.

If the internet was around back when Bowman was making picks, the technology would have allowed him to make better picks.

maybe...but that whole era was all about him and his ego...something tells me that he would have scoffed at anything that didn't fit his thought process, and that includes data that may have steered him in another direction

Imagine if the internet was around when we "drafted" Taro Tsujimoto?

I am very thankful we have Eichel very thankful however, IMO the Oilers don't deserve to have McDavid,

Shortsighted statement due to your own personal biases based on the incorrect narrative you've sold yourself on why the oilers should be better than they are

I won't put words in your mouth, but I bet I can guess at least a few of your contentions on the matter. If I am in fact right about those; the fact is that they're all wrong and fundamentally misunderstand the issues that surround the oilers

I can absolutely see how it would annoy someone. Especially a fan of a team that was actually worse than the oilers on 2 of the occasions they actually 'won' the lottery in the truest definition.
But this shouldn't suggest any other team 'deserved' it anymore than they did. Or more to the point that the oilers didn't deserve Connor because of someone's incorrect perceptions on where the oilers should be.

I also didn't hear near the amount of anger at the process when say yakupov was struggling. But certainly heard the catcalls for supposedly selecting the wrong player.
It wasn't until the Connor win that it became unfair for so many fans

My balance is far too good for that.

My weakness lies in always attempting to correct mythical perceptions based on concrete narratives that tend to get harder the more often they're read on forums such as this one
