They couldn't play him in the AHL. That was the problem. He either had to be in Jr or on the NHL roster. As soon as he was eligible for the AHL, that's where they sent him.

I don't know if it has to do with Fowler or not but can we move Ennis ? might hurt won't it?
- SABRES 89

Depends on who comes back honestly. If it's a package that includes Silferberg and Fowler for Ennis+, I think we kill two birds with one stone.

Silfverberg is good when he has someone to get him the puck. I don't know why it hasn't been working for him and Kesler this year. They were dynamic last year, and I can't imagine that it was Beleskey making all the difference.

Seemed like desperation for a savior, and he wasn't ready when Darcy wanted.

Something seems off with the Ducks and I don't know why.

The real culprit here though, is the CHL Transfer agreement. But, I do agree to some extent. Instead of jerking the kid around, they should have just sent him back right away both years he still had eligibility. That way, he could have gotten the full 3 years that he should have been waiver-exempt in the AHL and more time to hone his skills so that when he contract did come back up again (which would have been longer since he would have had it slide 2 years), he would have been in a much better place.

Bettman has had his head in the sand for years now. It's like they banked all the good will about how the game was played after the season long lockout, got a better deal the next time, and have been going with that ever since.

You see obstruction and interference multiple times in every game, every night, and it often occurs more than once in a single shift.

- kingcong39

The same people (in this market anyway) that want the referees to start calling obstruction, etc., more in the NHL, are the same people griping about how the NFL is getting obnoxious because there seems to be a flag thrown on every other play. The NHL got away from what they did in 2006 and 2007 because many teams felt it was overkill. Buffalo just happened to not be one of them because they had a bunch of smaller type players that benefited from a "leave room for the Holy Spirit" type of physical standard. That's not to say that the standards can't improve, but you are never going to see a drastic change in enforcement because the teams don't really want it that way for the most part.

It's because Francois Beauchemin is missing.

It sounds funny, but the last time he left as a UFA and went to Toronto, they struggled for quite awhile as well.

My frustration with the calls is that they're not consistent about it. You'll see 3 or 4 really blatant things happen, and then all of a sudden the weakest call in the history of the game gets made.

Honestly, I don't think our defense has been that bad. Is there room for improvement? Sure. But it's holding up pretty good. I'd rather see Colaiacovo in there than Weber. And I'm not sure what's gonna get moved around when Bogo comes back, but so far, it's working for the most part.

You know, I both love and hate reading Paul Stewart's blogs. He has some very interesting insights, but he clearly has an axe to grind and he reminds the readers of it in everything he writes. However, I think there's some merit to one of his claims. The officials today do seem to be poorly trained.

It's not going to change. They would rather let interference and obstruction go uncalled, than get sued for concussions.

Believe it or not, but interference protects a lot of defensemen from vicious hits from fore checkers

That's a factor as well. Brian Burke's suggestion of allowing the "bear hug" was actually a good one, even though it got scoffed at by most.

There is a difference in excellence, on the one hand, and greatness/championship quality, on the other, and this post has a long way to go before it can be considered championship quality.

I'm having a very Mike Weber-ish day. That's probably why.
