I dont get the riding Hakstol..I really dont...If it was Bowman in there it wouldnt make a difference because their isnt enough talent on this team. I dont agree with ever seeing B Manning or Vinny on a PP at this point but you cant just run Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn and Streit out there ever PP..

All that being said, we all knew this was a throw away season I just hate Hextalls approach of no way a young player comes up until he is 101% ready because that means we havent even started going through their growing pains yet.

- opeth_pa

Problem is the blue chip prospects down there haven't gone through the growing pains at the AHL level yet. Ghost and Morin need a full season. I think Hagg, Alt, Cousins and Leier will all see time in the NHL this season. If the Team keeps playing like they are there is going to be a fire sale.

Giroux, Voracek, Couturier, Mason, Simmonds, Del Zotto, Laughton and PEB would be the only players I make a conscious effort to keep going forward.

Everyone else could be had for whatever is perceived as market value.

I think it depends on the player. A young player your expecting in a top 6 roll I might agree. But I think a player who expect to play a bottom 6 roll could play well. I think depending on moves at deadline you might see some guys come up if money is moved. I am intrigued by martel. His speed and skills I am hoping for him to be our Tyler Johnson/ Tyler ennis typetype.
- J35Bacher

if the Flyers make moves at the deadline, then you can bring up a few players, but by then players like Gostisbehere and Cousins will have had substantial development time in the AHL and will be further along. Right now, there isn't any move from the Phantoms that will fix the current issues on the big club.

I agree. I don't think there are really any moves to make other then trades that could change the team. Yes guys need to pick up there play and that will help. But they still need more speed and skill.

I don't either. The guy is still getting his feet wet with this roster and he rectified his mistake quickly considering Vinny played less than 5 minutes last night. I doubt we'll see him again in the lineup unless there are multiple injuries. He has no choice but to play Manning due to injuries too. Bottom line is, Hextall signed Hakstol for $10 million over 5 years. He's not going anywhere anytime soon.

maybe our beloved president can convince Hexy to trade G and V for a nice haul as he did with Richie and Carts

Would you trade giroux for Johnson?

Edit; Ryan Johansson. Not Johnson.

Seeing 40 and 23 both on the right side of PP2 was bad enough, but when Vinny's pass got by Manning and led to that scoring chance in the 1st, I damn near lost it.

Two struggling guys anchoring the wall. Great idea

that may have been a mistake

Thanks Bill. I agree with Wolf's assessment about sitting VL, and Manning. At least Gagner was trying to play a two-way game last outing; he actually came back into the D-zone to help his D-men out. In addition, he chips in a point here, and there (5 points/ +2). Finally, he showed guts by getting into a fight this season; although it wasn't pretty.
I am just crossing my fingers about passing the 22 win mark this season. Draft Day, here we come...woohoo.

I'd trade Vinny for David Johansen at this point

Not a chance, Giroux is a special player and is a heart and soul guy. Also leads the NHL in faceoffs, plays over 20 mins a night. Has the second most points in the NHL over the last 4 years. What more could you ask for?

This roster is worse than what Berube had at his disposal... maybe far worse depending on how much you value Coburn.

Hak's making some rookie mistakes, and the team is too poopty to bail him out.

But yeah, contract or no, they need to be patient w/ the coaching, the kids they've picked recently, and the kids in the lineup already. It's the only thing they haven't tried over the past 40-something years.

God help us if Uncle Ed pulls the plug on the plan.

I can't see this core turning around in the next two years without some big additions up front. And unless you're picking top 5 its going to be some time before any of the future draft picks are contributing.

Almost makes me wish we were a little further along and could make a run at Eric Staal in the off season after buying out Vinny and trading Streit in favor of a ELC.

G, Staal, Coots would be sick Center depth.

No but I'd do Simmonds for Boone Jenner and a pick.

Or BSchenn for Jenner. CBJ probably wants more than BSchenn though.

I get it. I know giroux and voracek work well. Just think voracek needs a shooter. He is more a playmaker. Same with giroux. Both guys like to pass. I guess I just don't like the mix of this roster.

I would do that. I also wonder what a guy like Backes will want in off season. I think he is a FA this year. I have always liked him and think he would a be great winger on the top line. But again your probably paying big money and that doesn't work with some of the contracts already.

Do you discount the possibility that calling up a young player to play on a bad team before the player is ready to play full time in the NHL, can be detrimental to his development?
This is not just a physical game, it's also mental. Think about how hard the jump from juniors, to the AHL, then to the NHL is, and then what kind of environment those young players will be placed in, where even established NHL players are struggling. All of that can lead to confidence and self doubt issues, where it can snowball and set a young player in a hole, and delay his development. There is no way I subject a young prospect to this situation right now.

- MJL

Nope but I also don't automatically assume that means all prospects are ruined by playing on a bad team..

It is just ugly to watch - bad passes and bad decisions all over the ice.

G's 2 one 1 was probably the worst I have ever seen him execute. Coaches need to show this to young players on exactly what not to do on a 2 on 1.

I expected this type of win/loss record from this team this year. I suspect most Flyer fans did too. I didn't expect how painful was going to be to watch having no offense.

I was afraid the Flyers were fighting above their weight class earlier in the season when they seemed to get off to a decent start. I guess I was right.

- mrspeeed

Not really sure what MDZ was doing on the 2-1 in OT either...Coots was a bit behind on the back check, but it did seem like MDZ could've been more aggressive on the shot. Just one of those where you have the feeling if it makes it on net it's going in somehow.

Maybe it's coming down from Hextall for whatever reason. I'd like to know what the heated exchange between the two of them was about

Eric Staal... after buying out Vinny
- hereticpride

Wouldn't that just be like buying out Briere to sign Vinny.

Staal's not young.

If I am trading I want to look at a team like Anaheim. They are struggling now but they are expected to contend for a cup this year. Would they be willing to make a trade where they move a player like John Gibson and fowler to bing in players to help get them there. That would be my idea. Can you make a play for Gibson and theadore for some package with Simmonds b schenn, Luke schenn. Something like that.
