There was a similar play the day before the Flyers' Wives Carnival in 2009. They were playing the Penguins, tied late in the 3rd period. Biron came out past the circles to cover the puck. In order to not get a penalty, he let it go, kind of throwing it behind his back...right to a Penguin (Sykora, maybe). He took it and fed a pass to Crosby for an open goal. I think the final was 5-4.

I was in Homer, Alaska coaching my youth team when that game happened. One of the fathers was a Penguins fan. That sucked.

Whoops, my bad. Yes, Marty Biron. I remember thinking how hard it must have been for him at the carnival the next day. - jmatchett383
I'll never forget that goal. Terrible. Gotta say though, it's weird seeing Crosby that excited after he scored. He's seemed so joyless in recent history, like a true *beep boop* hockey robot.
I know he's been underwhelming so far, but Simmer's still a solid keeper for me -- there's nobody in the system who could replace him and there very few players in the league who can do what he does, as well as he does. Try to replace him through the draft, and prepare to wait half a decade or more for your investment to pay off (if it ever does).
They look terrible, but it's too early for a shakeup, IMO. Let Coots get back in the lineup, then re-evaluate in December. There's probably a Downie/Talbot kind of move you could make then to shake up chemistry. - Tomahawk
No worries that we have seen Simmonds' peak seasons?

He also seems like a shell of himself, I don't think he has ever been this same since his bout with concussions. I know he is definitely getting older but not nearly as dominant anymore.
I've stayed off the major sites. Are the dirty Flyers up to their old tactics, out there trying to injure the new superstar? - jmatchett383
No. At worst they got tangled up. The spin seems to be he's such a fast player that he lost his edge trying to stop and that his exit from the ice was soooooo heroic that his legend has just grown.

Since his bout with concussions he's put up 56 p in 36 games; 104 in 80 (won Hart); and 84 in 77. He would've won the Art Ross in all 3 years probably if he didn't miss some time. He's been as dominant as ever since his concussions. I'll take the odds he turns his game around just like Voracek.
General question: If you can leave out injuries and are starting a team today, would you take:
Pavel Bure or Alexander Ovechkin
Sergei Fedorov or Pavel Datsyuk
Peter Forsberg or Evgeni Malkin
Paul Kariya or Rick Nash
Teemu Selanne or Patrick Kane
I can't find a good video of it (there's a crappy one out there and I didn't feel like it did the bit justice) where Simon Gagne and a very young Claude Giroux (this was 2009) are on a line with Coatsey and Gagne and Giroux basically make fun of Coatsey in French the whole bit. That was definitely one of my favorites.

He's not as "electrifying" as he once was, but he's still every bit as good.

I think there's team factors contributing to his current scoring slump, but that'll break. He's definitely on the back end of his prime, though. He's still a top player.
If there's one thing that stands out to me about the Sidney Crosby era, in my amateur no-data-having opinion, it's that the NHL is increasingly resistant to one player taking over the game. Maybe a really hot streak for a goaltender, but otherwise the team game is king.

The proper title is actually a "Carle Scrutinizer." You see, we watch Matt Carle play, overlook any good plays he makes, and harp on any/all mistake making mountains out of Rosehills. And something about Eminger.

And Penguins fans couldn't be more upset about it.

Bure, but not by much
Fedorov, but not by much
Forsberg
Kariya and it's not close (for me, at least)
Teemu forever
