Team is starting to play better...Brodie is a massive boost

need to string some wins together though before "turning the corner" talk

and why are Oilers fans so cocky? We have one less point and are completely embarrassed, they seem pretty pleased

Yep.

A complete 180 degree turn of how we were playing to start the season is exactly what we need. Good post!!

I would argue that even going back to the Detroit game they haven't been playing that bad. The goaltending is atrocious, but the good news is that it can't get any worse (can it?!)

The guys on the Fan960 this morning were already writing Ortio off which I think is unfair. Goalies need time to find their game in the NHL. I think it would be a mistake to subject him to waivers. Stay the course.

They have played well to start every single game since the Detroit game...when your goalie lets in a beach ball after all that good work it totally deflates the team

Turning a corner??

More like driving a ox cart on the trans Canada hiway, just outside of regina closest corner is a season away.

30th in goals against

- all mighty oil

Ugh... I see the Trolls are out early to start this Monday...

What about getting Anderson from the Ducks if they are indeed going to move him? I doubt the would trade him in the division though. Any other goalie targets out there? I'd be willing to give anyone a shot at this point. Maybe Mrazek out of Detroit? Lack from Carolina?

Does anybody remember how maddingly inconsistent Carey Price was in his first year in the league?! Even carrying into his second season!?! Montreal stuck with him and let him play to find his game and eventually he settled in. Now I'm not saying Ortio has as high a ceiling as Price, but Ortio's had 2 full starts in the NHL so people need to calm down and give him time for gods sakes.

"The Flames are still five games under .500 but they're starting to remotely resemble a playoff caliber team."

Whoa, when did Knute Rockne start blogging here... take off the pom-poms Todd.

I think he's referring to the upwards trend in our Corsi, something Todd (and every other a-hole enjoying our early season struggles) has pointed out as this teams major weakness (and the supposed reason for our unavoidable, Avalanche like, regression this season).

Also

Remotely
adj. re·mot·er, re·mot·est

1. Distant in time: the remote past.
2. Faint; slight: a remote possibility; had not the remotest interest.

Maybe they'll trade him to the Bruins? Then they can turn around and deal him right back to their division

last six games fenwick%:

vs Det 61.76%
@ NYR 48.33
@ NYI 48.10
@ Ottawa 62.12
vs Montreal 54.79
@ Edmonton 60.00

Flames have dramatically improved in this area of late....not much to show for it though because said letting in of beach balls from the blue line

No they're not. The Flames will be one of the 4 Pacific Division teams that do not make the playoffs this year. Pacific Division top 3 (in no particular order) will be LA, Anaheim, and either San Jose or Vancouver (can't decide between them).

I agree we do need to string together some winning streaks ...right now I'm seeing a lot of positives that lead to this happening

-Sam Bennett is getting rewarded for his good play
-TJ Brodie is back and playing great
-Gio is looking better and has room to improve
-Hamilton has been looking better
-With the D starting to produce along with the new lines creating more than one scoring threat

Right now it's just goaltending keeping this team from any potential winning streaks

I want to see 3-4 good team wins. Get some goals from the D and at least 3 lines involved in the offense. Can't expect Frolik or Gio to put the team on their back each win. Also some stability from the tenders, Then we can talk about turning corners.

Always willing to add my two cents. I figure if fans of other teams can troll Ducks blog, I can return the favor. By the way, I'd love for Calgary to do well this year. They were a fun team to watch last year.

"The Flames are still five games under .500 but they're starting to remotely resemble a playoff caliber team"

Surely, this was a sarcastic sentence... I mean, I'm really, really hoping that's the case here. If not, yikes. Just how low has the bar fallen for the Calgary Flames?
