Hey all, got married on the 30th and were honeymooning down to Buffalo on the 6th to visit my family and friends an seeing the Canucks game on the 7th. We're throwing the idea around of finishing up in Canada in the Toronto area, anyone have any knowledge of good stuff to see and places to eat in that region?

Not interested in a "hockey theory" argument...but point out where he said "more wild shots at the goalie means they'll score more"
- stashu

Read it a few times & missed your quote - so not sure what you mean. It's not only here it's everywhere now & it just misrepresents what teams can do. If you think more shots get you more goals good luck, I just hope with the way ROR has been playing most of the shots are his!

Odd to have no penalties in a game.
- LandlordTom

Oh there were penalties all game long on both teams. A bunch of holds and interference penalties that went uncalled. If that is what the standard is going to be prepared for even more boring hockey.

Here's my problem with advanced stats in hockey. The number of presumptions piled on top of presumptions without any real checks to ensure reliability lead to completely unreliable data.

We presume that if we get alot of shots, a good number of them will go in. But there's no check to measure whether its a quality shot or just an easy wrister into the goalie's glove.

We presume that if a good number of the shots go in, we will win the game, but there's not check to measure whether the d is any good or not.

We believe that if we limit the number of shots taken against us, then fewer will go in, and we will win.

But - as this article points out - we have great shots for (but no "finish"), and good shots against, but we have a LOOSING RECORD. There's so much more to the game of hocket thnan just shooting, and maybe its all that other stuff - now rather derogatorily described as "the eyeball test" - that dictates as much or more whether a team will actually win.

- Der Kaiser

We have (or had? haven't looked in 2-3 games since weve won back to back) one of the lowest PDO's in the league. Generally, this stat is recognized as "luck". But basically, in our case the low number imeans poor save percentage, and poor shooting percentage. We are well below the league average in both. However, if we are generating as much as we have been, those numbers will start to normalize. Anotherwords, if our team was shooting at league average, say 8%.. then we should have scored at least 4 goals against PIT.

The advanced stats tell you that we should have beaten TB, PIT, NJ, and probably even the MTL game... the eyeball test confirmed that for me, except I was able to pick up on 2 things: Chad Johnson and our PK are god awful. Reason for our save percentage being absolute poop and losing games we have no business losing. And we just were not converting on prime scoring chances. Bishop had a great game against us, we hit a lot of posts against PIT and MTL, and our early season tap-in goals weren't happening (Eichel to Kane a couple times). Reason for our shot percentage being so low. You can take 70 shots, but if youre shooting below 3% no matter the quality of shot, youre not going to score much. This will eventually normalize.

I think we saw some normalization last night. We didn't have as many shots, but 2 of the goals we scored were 2 of the maybe 3 or 4 chances we really generated. We weren't scoring those goals in the first 10 games.

i got to listen to the Isles broadcast.. it was Jack McCabe not Jake the entire game, I can't believe not one person corrected him. There were also a lot of other mispronunciations. makes me wonder how bad RJ butchers other teams players..

He only does it after a goal. It's like he's trying something like Yikes Eichel and just combining it. I'm not a fan.

The Eaton Centre is pretty cool. If you have to drop a deuce, use the bathroom on the third floor of Sears. It's like you're the first one to use the thing. Although some little old lady came in to clean while I was in there which was kind of funny. I don't know if it's even still there come to think of it.

I'd stay away from the Delta Chelsea hotel. Wasn't impressed at all, especially for the price. The beds were like cardboard, the sheets felt like sandpaper, the room was tiny.

Obviously the Hockey Hall of Fame, just see when the Cup will be there before you go, so there's not a let down, or so you can plan to go when it will be there.

But take the Rainbow Bridge over, because honestly, Clifton Hill is still kind of cool even as an adult and seeing the Falls from the Canadian side is way better than our side. And the Rainbow Bridge will get you to both of those things fairly quickly. Obviously the casinos, but unless you play poker or count cards for blackjack I'd stay away and keep your money. You just got married; you're going to need it! lol

The Ontario Science Centre is awesome. It's not quite right downtown like the HHoF or the Eaton Centre, but it's still in Toronto and only about a 15 minute drive from the Eaton centre. It's been about 20 years since I've been there, but I loved it when I went with my family when I was about 10.

As far as restaurants go I can't really remember any. On Clifton Hill we would just go to Boston Pizza. If East Side Mario's is still a thing up there it's a solid place to eat. And after concerts and events it was always Pizza Pizza or grab a bag of chips or something at the gas station on the way home. But as far as any kind of "good" restaurant I can't help you with that one, sorry.

Edit: Congrats! Also I don't know where you live now, there's an Ikea in Burlington on the way to Toronto.

This may sound crazy, but I don't even notice the announcers during games most of the time these days. I don't need someone telling me what's going on and analyzing it for me, I'm perfectly capable of doing so myself.

Spector posted a writer for the Wild mentioned if Pominville doesn't get back his scoring touch, the Wild may buy him out, will cost a lot but they may.

I haven't watched too many games start to finish on TV. I went to the first two, missed the Columbus game because of work, and I've been out and about for most of the rest. I've seen bits and pieces of games at restaurants and bars with the sound off. The only game I have actually turned on at home and watched straight through, I think, is the Pittsburgh game, and even then I was doing work around the house. I only noticed the RJ "Yeichel" thing when I watch highlights of the goals later.
