I'm sorry can ANYONE feel serious when they try and say "Lehner is the answer.."
- feetontheair22
Lehner is 24 years old and won a calder cup in the AHL before he was 20. Most goalies dont peak till around 30. Lehner has the potential to be an absolute stud. No way you can count him out after half of a game.

I was using Stafford to point out that Kane has had less of an impact than a player that you all regard so highly, Stafford.

And I didn't have to use him as part of my argument, all I had to do was say what his stats were to make it apparent that the statement "Kane has been a huge impact player for us" is a bit hyperbolized.

Again I apologize to the original poster I misidentified. I was zoomed in on my phone and didn't see the left margin and made a mistake.

Yeah, but how do you define "impact player"? A player who hits the stat sheet? Then yeah Kane hasn't been, but when you watch the games he's all over the ice, you notice him and the plays he makes so not a lot of them have turned into goals at this point, but this top 6 i.e. the guys who score the goals are all new this year. Not one player is playing with a guy he played with last year for 99% of the games. Chemistry takes a little while to develop. It takes time to figure out where your winger is going to be, whether he likes his passes out front, to the side, when he goes to the net where does he stop? But when things click like they did against the admittedly terrible Blue Jackets things look real good, and despite the final score against Montreal the Sabres carried the play the majority of the game.

Eichel has what, 3 points? He's been far and away the best player on the team. He is the prototypical "impact player" he makes plays most of the time all by his lonesome. So he hasn't buried them all or had any of his line mates bury any of them yet. Doesn't mean he's not an "impact player".

We get it, you don't like the moves. Fine. I think what most of us are saying is that you're getting way ahead of yourself in saying that they are bad trades when we won't know for another year at the absolute earliest. It's like when they say who "won" a draft the day it's completed; that's the most absurd thing in all sports, not just hockey. Or who "won" a trade even before any of the players play a game for their new teams. Look at when the Hodgson trade came down "Wow Regier really fleeced Gillis". Now? "Meh".

Or the guy who posts that a guy (Konecny) a player the Sabres have nothing to do with, "oh look, he's got 47 points in 3 games" who gives a poop? We gave up that pick that we may or may not have used on him. The only reason we're still talking about the trades is because anytime anyone even tangentially related does anything, anything at all, everyone has to hear about it from a very small group. I swear one of these days I'm going to read "Brenden Lemieux took a good poop today." And then the response. "See Murray! WTF were you thinking giving him up for that slug Kane!?" That's how far through the looking glass we are on these things.

Neither the coach, nor the GM said that we were going to make the playoffs this year. They said they want to get a little better everyday, and I think, for the most part, they've done that. They said they want to compete; meaning carry the play for good portions of the game, but that they still have a long way to go. People see big moves which they're not used to and think instant success. This is nothing but a transition year, and if we have success great; if not? Hey, another top 5 pick isn't going to kill us.

Patience truly is a virtue. Hard work pays off. Something this generation completely refuses on principle alone. They want results and they want them now! Or they're looking for ways to circumvent the system. I'm not saying all, but a good deal more than there used to be. I guess because I'm trapped between 2 generations "millennials" and "Generation X" I feel so out of place.

And in true Garf fashion I will not be proofreading, because I'm tired and want to go to sleep to wake up in 5 hours to watch the Bills game.

This team looks worse than last season if that's possible.
Hope Bylsma gets this team moving in the right direction.
I'm not sure and too lazy to look it up but how does this year's team ( which is 100 times more talented) compare to last years team 8 games in , points and goals against/forward .
With the talent that this team has on it compared to last season's, I expected much more .
Not sold on Bylsma at all yet.
I hope that he changes my mind soon.

I almost spit my coffee out reading that.
Does anyone really believe that Lehner is our answer for a number 1 goalie?
Murray really screwed the pooch in that trade especially giving away a 1st round pick for him and, I think Murray even knows that he (frank)ed that up.
Murray needs to stop being so impulsive and begin to do a bit more homework before he puts it all on red so to speak.

Agreed. Lehner hasn't proved himself this year. It's like he's invisible out there.

They aren't as bad as last year, not even close. Last season the puck was virtually parked in our zone. If we got it out it came right back as if it were a boomerang. The only problem they have(besides a rash of injuries) is the inability to finish chances. I don't beleive that they have developed the sense that they need to win these games and earn points. I think that is a leftover effect from tanking. Instead of urgency to win as a team, i just see individuals trying to justy their time on the ice with goals and ultimatley bearing down too hard doing it.

People are jumping off the ledge this early in the season based on what reasons?

Yes, the injuries stink and are troubling, but they happen to every team and the injuries the Sabres are experiencing could very well get them a top 5 pick which could put them over the top for the rebuild.

There is no, none; comparison to last years team.
Fans are frustrated with the fact that the team has played much, much better than last years train wreck, but have nothing to show for it. The key forwards aren't burying their shots yet, but are playing relatively well...with breakdowns happening occasionally...that is somewhat expected from a virtually new team, coach, and system..and 7 games in.
We need to breathe, check the " I told you so" and doom and gloom until after Xmas

I rarely notice it mentioned but the best part about this team is their relentless forecheck. They create so many turnovers through hustle. I don't think they've had one period this year where I didn't see it. Things aren't equating to wins, and it is beyond frustrating. But this team gives 100% and that's a huge change for the franchise.

Well, I am certainly not on any ledge with this team for sure.
My expectations were greatly tempered with this team, although I did expect improvement in points and goals forward but it is early.
A GM that has proven nothing except the propensity to make impulse buys and a head coach that was a winner while coaching the likes of Crosby ,Malkin etc.
12 more games to till you can really sink your teeth in and genuinely assess.
1/8 th of the way through already, and thus far this team has a similar aroma to last year's team that had far less talent.

Not true at all. The past 2 and a half years have been unwatchable. This year they actually look like an NHL team and have been dictating pace and play most nights. To me they look like a team trying to find chemistry. I agree that we all need to see at least a dozen more games from this group in order to identify with what we actually have this season.

EJ does blow, but I have never seen a QB have every single throw they make dissected and criticized like he does.

If it's all about players who are constantly injured you should be glad Myers is gone. Bogosian has played in 18 more games- drafted same year.

When you can't hit a wide open receiver without them having to make an adjustment that's a problem. When it's a problem he gets dissected every play. If my wife who doesn't like football can tell he sucks that's a huge problem.
