None of us really knows what Darcy...

Seriously, I think it's easy to make the case that the teams' play has improved from last year, and I'm not someone who's clinging to a playoff berth this year. They look like a classic example of needing to gel better and finish within our system. But there IS actually a system in place, and we have young players who appear to be figuring it out.

Lets get some things straight. No one who criticizes Tim Murrays trades was expecting that this team would be good this year. It was you homers who say we could battle for 8th this year, not us. We aren't complaining because the sabres didn't start off 6-0. We have always felt that O'Reilly and Kane were overrated and not worth the cost, and that when they came here and were expected to take over key roles, that they would not produce at the rates they had as second line supporting players.

We hear that we can not evaluate the play or production of the players we traded for through six games, but then we see countless posts saying that Zadorov/Grigo/Armia/whoever are off to a shaky start so it shows we didn't overpay for the trade. But whatever Kane and Orielly do it's too soon to judge them.

We say anything about the future and we need a crystal ball to support it. You guysmake lofty predictions about everything and it is fine, no crystal ball needed.

We say anything about Tim Murray ruuining the team and we are crackhead trolls, morons, etc. We defend ourselves and we are firther artacked just because we have an opinion that you don't like.

Lets keep it hockey related everyone.... I am going to my friends tonight.

we dare to say that O'Reilly and Kane aren't top line franchise players and we are laughed and mocked. But you all can say everything and anything you want as long as the sabres are awesome.

You try to find stats to support your assertions that this team has improved by strides this year. Any facts that don't support your assertions are stupid. Like the amount of goals scored or our record. But because our goals allowed is better than boston and we have given up the second least amount of shots, we are worlds better

Here is a newsflash. When you don't have a lead in games, you dont face as many shots and have as many goals scored against you that if you are competitive in games.

But hey, what do I know, I shouldn't even be allowed to be a sabres fan because I am not happy with how Tim Murray has handled this rebuild. Right?

Now I will get insulted more, called a crackhead, called a troll, told I can not be a fan. Because I dont agree with most of you. And I am the one with the problem, I am the ass. Not the people calling me a crackhead. Not the people telling me I should not be a fan if I am not happy with things. Not the people calling me a moron and mocking what I say. Those people are all cool, because they think like the rest of us. I am the problem and if I dare to defend myself I am more of a problem.

This team is more fun to watch because of Eichel and Reinhart. Not because of all the chances that the supposed stars we traded for can't finish.

Yeah, here's what I think. While it's unlikely any of us has a clue about what's inside Darcy's head, and things like the salary cap, NTCs/NMCs, and the declining economy's impact on future revenues make it nearly impossible to trade anyone of any significance, it's not inconceivable that the Sabres could make a mid-season move.

Vanek, Roy, Miller, Pommer are probably not on the block since they represent the young core of this team and are all locked up long-term. We all know Vanek's contract is insane, but given the length and amount of the others, it seems unlikely to me there's a better deal out there. Remember Larry Quinn is a numbers guy, and 5 mil 6 years from now will be looking pretty good. Roy's deal is an especially favorable one for the club. You might even be able to throw Goose into this category b/c his value to the Sabres is high given his hustle and toughness.

Max, Kotalik, and Connolly are popular choices for a change of venue, but their UFA status would mean they'd need to go to a contender for the receiving team to be willing to assume the risk. That said, what's the likelihood of a contender sending the Sabres something worthy of a blockbuster? That's not even taking into account Max sucking for the last 2 years, Kotalik getting a reputation of being lazy, and (Tin) Connolly being more fragile than the leg lamp in A Christmas Story. This, coming from the guy who actually owns a Connolly jersey.

As far as young talent at forward goes, Stafford, MacArthur, Paille are the only roster players in that category. They're all tradable, but not enough to bring in an impact player. To me, the Sabres would need to include one of Mancari, Gerbe, or Kennedy to get another team interested. Possible, though Gerbe seems like he's got a future here.

Lastly, if they're really trying to fix the recent injury problem at defense, they're not going to trade any defensemen. Even still, it's more likely they'll do what they did last year and bring in a veteran like Nolan Pratt to temporarily fill the gap until Weber and Sekera are healthy again (a few weeks?). I haven't looked to see who like that is available, but they found someone last year and could probably do it again.

We Sabres fans have gotten used to the fact that Darcy rarely makes any moves. In fact, who really does anymore? I'd love to be wrong, but not at the expense of 26 / 9 / 30 / 29. You can have Peters. Twice.
