Draisatl assigned. Bennett gets ice time on a less talented forward corps. We needed a center. Who's out shining him by such a huge degree?
- Der Kaiser

of the forwards the NHL GP goes pastrnak with 50, leon with 37 skunk with 12.. there are a few others that have like 3 or 4 games as well.. and then there is Ekblad.

Pastrnak is the only one who is clearly outshining him

I would rank draisatl, Bennett, Ehlers, larkin, Pastrnak ahead of him right now and its not all based on stats. Didnt say they were outshining him by a huge degree btw

Other than Rochester being the best place of Reinhart right now, I think he should be moved to a third line wing position with Larsson as his center. He would have a fair amount of minutes without being overloaded, and less defensive responsibilities. I really think this kids problem may be that he's just afraid. Afraid of screwing up, of playing with bigger, older players etc. It might just be a culture shock thing. I would bet that by midseason he starts to come out of his shell and gets the confidence that he belongs here.

The same thing happened with Larsson. He was called up and then sent down a dozen times, but it was when he finally got mad about being sent down that he finally manned up and began throwing his weight around, proving he belonged.

More than likely the leafs since we beat Columbus. We will finish between 5th and 7th last but win the lottery and take the stud from the Sarnia sting on defense

old but good .. so true we had god on our side

BUFFALO, N.Y. (MS) -- Dylan Strome's first NHL goal wasn't how he grew up imagining it, but he'll take it.

Drafted third by the Buffalo Sabres in June's draft, Strome centered a pass for teammate Mikhail Grigorenko that bounced in off an opponent's skate, the Sabres' lone goal in Monday's 4-1 loss to Columbus.

Buffalo is 0-3 to start the season, hoping to keep climbing after finishing 30th in the NHL two seasons ago and 29th last year.

"I always dreamed I'd score my first on a breakaway, or maybe with a blast from the circle, but it's good to be on the board," said Strome, who saw eight minutes of ice time.

"We're working him in slowly," Sabres coach Randy Carlyle said. "It's a process."

Strome admits he's struggling to block out the disappointment echoed by many Sabres fans over the team's failure to land either of last year's mega-prospects Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, drafted by Edmonton and Arizona, respectively.

"It's hard to listen to people say I won't be a great player, like they know it," Strome said. "This city is used to things going wrong and I feel like some fans here think I'm an example of that.

"I'll do my best though."

The Sabres seemed destined for Eichel at worst last season as they languished at the bottom of the standings for months. But the team defied the doubters in the season's final weekend, rallying past Columbus on Grigorenko's late goal, then stunning Pittsburgh 1-0 in the finale on a goal by Brian Gionta, courageously playing through an upper-body injury, and Anders Lindback's 55 saves.

Lindback stopped only 18 of 22 Columbus shots yesterday and has allowed 13 goals in the Sabres' three losses.

"It's a long season," he said.

Carlyle, hired to replace Ted Nolan this season, remained non-committal on whether Strome will head back to his junior team in Erie before the end of the month.

"Hopefully this goal today will give him some momentum for next time. But we're taking it slow. We know we're a few years away here."

Sabres general manager Tim Murray continued his media silence and was not available to comment yesterday on the loss, or Strome's future.

Murray has not spoken publicly since the NHL Lottery, which saw Edmonton leapfrog Buffalo for McDavid, then had last-place Arizona take Eichel. Eichel has scored highlight-reel goals in Coyotes wins over Los Angeles and Pittsburgh to start the season, both earning SportsCenter Top 10 plays status.

Strome's goal yesterday was more typical of the modern NHL. He came off a check in the corner and saw Grigorenko coasting through the slot. His pass bounced off the skate of Ryan O'Reilly, Columbus's big off-season acquisition, and into the net.

O'Reilly scored twice for Columbus and new coach Dan Bylsma, the former Stanley Cup-winning Penguins coach the Blue Jackets hired in July. "We're hoping for big things this year and our trading for Ryan is a big reason why," Bylsma said.

Buffalo, meanwhile, is stressing patience.

"You can't just snap your fingers and be a winning team," Carlyle said. "Sometimes there's some suffering that comes first."

NOTES: All tickets were sold but blocks of empty seats were visible. ... All fans in attendance received balloon rabbits. ... Buffalo's next home game is Wednesday, Oct. 21 against Toronto and its new coach, Mike Babcock. The Sabres pursued Babcock in the summer but the ex-Red Wings bench boss would not give them a meeting. ... The lone assist on Strome's goal went to Cody Hodgson.

I understand. I dont live and die by them. But the fact is we took him 2nd overall and so far he is not looking like the best forward taken in that draft. In fact i would rank multiple other players ahead of him. I never liked the pick but he here now and I just hope he can still turn into something special. Im not seeing the potential #1 center that he was once touted as tho.

Thankfully, he doesn't have to be a #1C.

Dumbest damn column I've ever read. Shoop is so full of himself. The rest of WGR boys I don't mind, he irrates me.

As far As Reinhart goes ... I like him and see enough glimpses that I feel He'll be fine as a 2C eventually...he needs to improve his skating and he needs time to fill out his frame ... Hence the best thing is go to the A and dominate like a wild hungry Skunk would. Work on power skating and power lifting. He took it to heart last time...another year will set him up good for the next 10 years!

He’s as close to NHL ready as anyone in the draft and his skills just bolster that.

Sam Reinhart has few issues with his game, if any. He will be in the NHL next season, it’s just a matter of which team in the top three will take a stab at him.

At this point, you’d have to consider Reinhart a slam dunk to make the jump to the NHL next year, the only question remains whether or not he winds up being the #1 pick which appears to be all his right now.”

Flaws/Aspects He Needs To Work On:

I haven’t noticed any flaws in Reinhart’s game. He’s as close to NHL ready as you can get.

Offensive: 10/10 Defensive: 3/10

These are all various scouting reports on Sam Reinhart before the 2014 NHL draft...

Clearly he has not lived up to the billing so far. I understand that hes still young but he was touted as the most NHL ready prospect in the entire draft and rated the best prospect in hockey. I think there is reason to be slightly concerned about his development so far

- MCGUIZZY

Agreed. I think he will end up a solid player. But he won't be the best forward out of that draft class IMO.

@pham1717: They're practicing 5-on-3 PP and both Reinhart and Gionta on the units. Makes me wonder if Larsson sits. He has struggled in all 3 games.

Great tweet from the Walrus.

Larkin, Bennett has been better. David Pasternak.

Yikes! There is no way we sit Renhart. They will play him the first nine and send him down if it doesn't seem he is effective. They tried to start him in a top six role, which I was okay with, but if they plan to play him on a forth line all year I would rather him play top minutes in Rochester.
Honestly, maybe his skating has improved, but he is still a below average skater at the NHL level. When I watch him it seems his acceleration is the issue, it takes him a bit to get going. There are plenty of good and great players who aren't great skaters like John Tavares, that still manage to excel in the NHL, so I am not too worried, but it doesn't seem he is quite ready yet.
