I'm not mocking, just saying I would rather have Duclair and a first over Yandle. You guys are the ones getting defensive over it.

Fair enough.

The defense needed a puck transporter. McDonagh, as good as his overall game is, is not an elite offensive defensemen.
- MidnightMarauder

Yea. And it's too early to call a winner to the trade either way.

I'm just thinking how nice it would be if we had Duclair as one of our wingers. Skjei could've slotted in in Yandle's spot.

if we had made the finals, could John Moore had filled McDonagh's spot vs Chicago because he had the broken foot?

Despres was borderline 6th defenseman/AHL top pairing defenseman for us. Lovejoy has actually been playing good in the top 4 for us. He only looked bad last year because he was thrown into 25 minutes a night on the top pair when we only had defenseman for a stretch.

Yandle is an okay offensive defenseman, looked much better in ARI. His defensive game is lacking. Basically an upgraded Del Zotto.

Thing is Duclair has been producing everywhere he's been. He was the NYR top prospect. Also that first rounder that was traded could have helped out too.

- Pens_Burgh

Yandle was -32 in 63 games as a Yote last season, he's played 44 games as a ranger and is a +16, I'd say his defensive game is an exaggeration much like most views about the Rangers

Also that 1st rounder hasn't been drafted yet so how could it have helped out?

An upgraded Del Zotto? Ummm, no.

Thing is, Duclair is a pretty well regarded prospect that wouldn't have had the chance here that is he is currently enjoying in Arizona. There, he will play first line minutes on the power play and at even strength. In NY, there would be no guarantee he would reach that level in the next few seasons. Plus, a tad overreactive seeing that he had his first standout performance in the 20 plus games he has played in the NHL.

Let's see what he does over the course of an entire season before we call him a can't miss.

who is better Giacomin or Lundqvist?
- jimbro83

Giacomin probably wouldn't make an NHL team today. The game is much, much faster than it was in Eddie's day.

Yuck, Montreal tonight, whoa Canada.

Kenny Albert is a trooper, did the Jays/Texas game last night in Toronto, heads rt back to Montreal to do tonight's game.

When Buchnevich arrives, and Gropp develops, Duclair will not be as missed as the overreaction, based off his first good NHL game, like he is this morning.

Most of the old guard NHLers would not last in today's game. It's safe to say most NHLers from the early 80s would not handle today's speed.

Hard to compare generations in any sport.

Relax man. I totally get why we did the trade and I would probably still do it. Duclair doesn't help us contend for the Cup until at the very least this year and even then probably not until next year or the one after. Just saying he's had a good start to the season.

The one thing I don't like about Yandle is that he's a passer over a shooter.

I will admit tho if Yandle walks and Duclair turns into the black Patrick Kane I might kill myself

Typical Ranger hating BS, Duclair's gonna be a good player but like you said above he would not get top 6 minutes or as much an opportunity here as he is enjoying in Arizona.

I know a lot of old time Ranger fans, very much like Old School who just don't like Lundqvist and just never will no matter what

All of these guys revere Giacomin though

Dude, some Pens fan at almost 1 AM had to post his overjoyed reaction to Duclair's hat trick, just because.

The hate is real.

Granted I'm only 22 and have legitimately followed hockey since 2007, I find it hard to believe Lundqvist isn't a top 10 goalie all time despite not winning a Cup, yet.

Hank is the Rangers all time best goaltender and this is coming from a huge Richter fan and a Rangers fan that started rooting in the early 90s.

He probably just went straight from Toronto to Montreal. It's the same distance as going from NY to Montreal (approx). And the food's better in MTL. Everything is better in MTL than TO, actually.

Sorry, I like Hank, I just wasn't ready to throw 64 mil bucks at him, when it's been proven that in order to win a cup in today's game, the goalie needs to be good, not great. See Cory Crawford, who by the way has two cups to his credit, and still doesn't make as much as Hank.

I am not sure he is top ten all time because unfortunately cups do mean something in regards to the overall resume.

If he does get one or two, before he rides off handsomely into the sunset, then he definitely ranks amongst the all time greats.

I think it's real against several teams. And those teams are usually successful ones (Cup, or no Cup), that fans of other teams are jealous of for one reason or another. Just embrace the hate. It'll make you feel better.

Kane is infinitely better than Duclair at this point. Too much unknown with him as of now.
