Thats absurd IMO.

We all know it's absurd, but it is close ton the package that would be required for Trouba. That's the whole point.

Absurd, yes. It reeks of a Holmgren move. But landing a guy like Trouba is going to have to be absurd 49 times out of 50.

I think they will trade Buff at the deadline. It's a lot easier for contenders to take on a contract with six weeks left. Even a team like Chicago who are totally capped out right now might be able to swing it in late February.
- Feanor

It's possible but not necessary. They should have enough to fit everyone in this year, but it could create problems later on if they resign with term.

For the record, I'm not in favor of shopping Simmonds.

Pronger was also 34. As great as he was, the Flyers probably were banking of 3-4, MAYBE 5, good years from him barring injury. Trouba is only 21, and will only get better. But let's break down this pipe dream:

Simmonds - 27 years old. 2nd/3rd line "power forward" winger.
Sanheim - 19 years old. Mid first-round pick. Great offensive skills, criticized for lack of defensive skill.
Konecny - 18 years old. Late first round pick, could have possibly slipped to 2nd round, especially if drafted in 2014.
2016 (top-3 protected) - likely at least top-6 forward/top-4 defenseman

Chances are, one of Sanheim/Konecny/2016 1st never pan out to be anything more than a bottom-6 forward/bottom-3 defender. So you're trading a 27-year-old 2nd/3rd line winger, a defenseman with issues playing defense, a fairly big unknown in Konecny, and likely a top-10 pick. When you look at it that way, it's a bit different than "4 1st rounders."

- jmatchett383

That's a joke and you know it. You've completely and subjectively slanted the argument for each player in your favor. I commneted on BiggE's offer, which upgraded Sanheim to Provorov. But let's stick with Sanheim.

Simmonds - 60 point power forward, young and signed for the foreseeable future

Sanheim - Great size, offensively gifted player who lead the WHL in scoring by a defeneman last year and is still trending up. Very highly rated prospect. The only ones criticizing his defense are on this board. For his age and stage of development is likely right where he should be. What did they say about Trouba at 19?

Konecny - Elite skills and only lacking size. In any other year would have been top 15. Very highly rated prospect.

1st round pick that would likely be top 15, maybe top 10.

So for the record, I said EVERY trade for Pronger. Ignore the Hartford trade because he was just a prospect.

St. Louis to Edmonton - Eric Brewer, Jeff Woywitka, Doug Lynch

Edmonton to Anaheim - Joffrey Lupul, Ladislav Smid, 2007 1st round pick, conditional 1st round pick

Flyers to Anaheim - Joffrey Lupul, Luca Sbisa, 2009 1st, 2010 1st.

Yes, Trouba is a top young defenseman and most people THINK he'll grow into a #1 dman, but he still has to hit that next gear and there's no guarantee he does that either.

I think Vesey would be the reason to make the trade. Nashville is strong in prospects on the left side. The Flyers...uh, not so much. Vesey will be ready to step in next year, whereas the first rounder will not.
- TheGreat28

You would rather have Vesey than a potential top 10 pick?

?It's not a straight up deal mind you. You are partly paying for Jones with that #1 and partly paying for Vesey.

In other words, Nashville would want more than Simmonds and Sanheim, especially if we're including Luke Schenn. But we might not be willing to go Simmonds, Sanheim and a top 10 pick. Vesey offsets that and helps us at a position of need. They could be willing to give him up to get Simmonds now, and they've got Fiala and a few other LW prospects.

Sweet Jesus, the idea freaks me out!

The road kind of not taken, how Washington was able to add Oshie to their line up and it took to get him, I totally believe we could have done the same. Troy Brouwer and a pick was good enough to get TJ Oshie?

I'm ok with trading him or Schenn as long as an impact forward comes back in an area of need. A 1st or 2nd line LW or 2nd line Center under 25. If you think Schenn is developing this year and Simmonds can fetch a higher return, I'm ok with it.

Way too early in the season though for that drastic a move.

TJ Oshie has more name value than actual hockey value. I don't think he should have been traded for Brouwer, but people should stop acting like they robbed St. Louis

would Hexy dare to trade Mason in a package

You seem to be very down on Mason lately. Not that you're not allowed, I'm just curious what's behind it.

Yes, I am jealous. Only been once and it was a few weeks after 9/11, so I didn't get the full Key West experience unfortunately. But we had a great time anyway, and loved Islamorada too!

Have a blast!

With the probable reduction in shootouts, his value has probably dropped a bit.

RJ Umberger is still injured and it sounds like it could be serious. Sam Gagner, aka Blackhawks killer, looked great in his place for the second straight game. If RJ goes on long-term IR then the Flyers could get some help, but if they can move RJ or another costly player Hextall will have all sorts of options.

This is what I'd offer:
2016 1st (top 3 protected), if we pick top 3, they get our next non top 3 1st
Sanheim
Simmonds
Aube-Kubel

If that's not enough, I'd upgrade Aube-Kubel to Konecny

- BiggE

No thanks.

We have 5 or 6 defensive prospects with possibly 2 of them being first or second type dmen. Offense is the biggest weakness on this team and in the prospect line so taken one of your top 3 offensive players and a top offensive prospect?

if you could do the deal for Sanheim , Simmonds or one of the prospects and a pick okay but in the end you still need to score goals to win games.

Like I mentioned before, the post was in response to being asked: What will it take to get Trouba? I wouldn't make that deal, the most I'd offer is:
Sanheim
Simmonds
2016 1st, top 3 protected.

Trouba is great but there's every reason to think Provorov can be just as good, and be a 20 minute a night guy at 19 years old like Trouba was.
