I think our Coach has the same mindset most fans had over the summer, Schenn or Gudas. I see tunnel vision in this mindset. There is no reason you can't have both in the line up, as we've had Grossmann and Schenn for the past 3 seasons. Two right handed defenseman in the line up never hurts. Manning hasn't stood out in anyway. He's doing his job but will the line up truly miss him? Nick Schultz is the guy who I think could play better.

In my view there were pre determined decisions made before camp even started, as to what they wanted to do. One of them in my opinion was that they wanted to give Brandon Manning a look, which is okay. Sometimes hidden gems develop from players like Manning, who develop late into real good players. They knew they'd probably lose him to waivers if they tried to send him down. I think he can play in the NHL as a depth defenseman. He plays a decent all around game, and he's cheap, but I have doubts that he can be anything more.

I hope Snider is alright. They can down play it but missing the open for the first time since the 60s? While some are unhappy with his leadership I think we can all agree, overall, he has created a wonderful and entertaining product and done a lot of good in the community. All my best Ed.

Undoubtedly you can trace some of the Flyers struggles to his influence at times. I'll still worry the day he's no longer chairman. It's no sure thing the next guy will share his passion for this team.

If I was the coach I would have sat Manning in place of Gudas, not Schenn.

I think this season is going to separate each player individually. I think we are really gonna findout the strengths and weaknesses of players and who stays and who goes.

I think Brayden Schenn is primed for a career year.

I think Neiverth will push Mason hard this year. So much so that this won't be the first time Mason will sit often.

I originally thought Luke Schenn would play right up to the deadline and be traded. I still believe this but his brother is here, he's known a few of our guys dating back to juniors and his parents would have to travel less to see him and his brother play. I would take Luke back at a reasonable price.

We are still a bubble team. I think we'll be good after it's too late.

I would like Giroux and Vorcaek be supermen for this team but the fact of the matter is those two are playing on an island most of the time. It's pretty difficult to score that way. No support.
- GOA88

They are pretty close. Will start to come for them. Giroux has missed several opportunities and Jake missed the wide open net at the end of the 1st. Once it clicks again they will start racking up the points. The 2nd/3rd lines at least look a bit more like a threat.

Exactly.

I love a good joke about Ed Snider's 3rd trophy wife as much as the next cretin, but really, the guy is the best sports owner in this city and has been for the past 40+ years.

They will, but I hope it is now, and not in November when they are already 5 points out and playing catch up in the standings for the rest of the year.

It's one way, but I'd rather build through the draft than add overpriced free agents. They've done a nice job adding D prospects over the last few years, now it's time to start doing the same with forwards in 2016 and 2017. I'm cool with being patient.
- BiggE

Patience will pay off. They have some guys coming up soon that could push for a spot...especially on the left side like lindblom. Either way forwards usually develop quicker so just hope to hit on a few in the next couple of years.

I really think this is a full team type of problem as well. Once there is more skill on the back end the entire team will look more skilled as space opens up.

Fantastic owner who has never done anything less than trying to win for 40 years. He has spared no expense. I love this team, and this organization, and wouldn't want to be a fan of any other hockey team.

It will be soon. What I am saying is that they arent playing like dogpoop. They are getting chances, breakaways, using the body for position, but missing the back of the net.

I'm not sure I buy into the need for number 1 dman. I think a good supporting cast 1-6 is doable to win. The problem is we have all 4-8 dmen. That doesn't work.

I agree for the most part.. I still think its too early to tell with Manning though. He moves well, plays a strong game, and is actually a pretty decent passer.. His decision making and positional play need some heavy work, but its not that crazy to suggest that he could improve there. If he can do that, I think he really could be an everyday player.

yup, exactly why I like the fact that they took care of the D first. The D guys in the system should start to really impacts around 2017-2019, and hopefully guys like Konecny along with hopefully some top end talent drafted in 2016 and 2017 will also move into the mix during that time frame. This year will be rocky and next year may be as well, but I think starting in 17-18 we will really see this team start to take off.

I truly wish the other owners in Philly cared half as much about their clubs performance as Ed Snider's does.

Well, if it takes Giroux until April to score an even strength goal at home like he did last season, the whole subject is irrelevant.

I thought Gudas was much better than he was in the pre season which was good to see, but I don't think he was significantly better than Schenn.
- MJL

I wish Luke would bring that same kind of relentless physical intimidation thing that Gudas has going. God knows he has the tools to do it.

Agreed. Luke needs to play with an edge, but avoid going way out of position to make a big hit.

They may have to take the good with the bad.

Putting him out there w Coots is a pretty smart thing to do. He gets a guy to cover his back defensively, and Coots gets a guy who can handle the puck for that line.

I think he's capable of being an adequate 3rd pairing defenseman right now. He is not however, one of the best 6 NHL defenseman in the organization right now.

Not sure what you're looking at. Luke Schenn has been one of the top physical defenseman in the NHL for years.

Yes, I like Gagner on the LW either on Cout's line or Laughton's. Either way, they can cover him a little bit. That was a point I made during pre-season. I'm ok with someone who is not as hard-working or strong on the puck IF they're paired with a defensively responsible forward. Hopefully it becomes a little contagious and he starts working harder too.

Depending on when you think the Flyers playoff hopes really ended last season, last night was the first meaningful win since February or March.
