Why? It's like rewarding them for finishing their education. Nothing wrong with that. If they went the college route it means they wanted to go to school in the first place. I don't necessarily think there intention right off the bat is to stiff the first team that drafts them.

It can favor Chicago, but it's looking like a pretty big loss right now not being able to sign Kevin Hayes. And the second round pick (Graham Knott) won't be ready for the NHL until Kane and Toews are likely in their 30s...

Or don't draft college players in the first place. If no one drafts them then they may have to sign something that they will have to honour to get into a pro system & reek the benefits. Seems pretty ordinary if these college players are utilising the organisations resources but then giving them the bird when they are ready to go.
