In my experiences in the US economy salaried just means employers can work you extra hours without paying you.

Yep. Assistant branch manager. Moved up from banker about 1 mos. ago. The manager takes off whenever she likes....not me. Worst position in banking.

one of my favorite things about working in my first job was being able to work 10 hours in four days and then take one day a week off. only time would be if we were close to a deadline and it was all hands on deck.

now that i'm in PE, work hours could be anywhere from 40 hours to 80 hours a week

Exactly... When I left my "corporate" job, overtime was simply showing dedication to my job.

Typical Flyers and Flyers fans m.o. when it comes to the pens derail the game plan and act like nothing happened as their captain tries to play grabass

Setting the tone (in a bad way)… maybe #87 irked HCMJ. If so - good for HCMJ!

From Mackey (paraphrasing)..."Through two games, Crosby has attempted one shot. It was blocked. Afterward, he denied that he's deferring too much to Kessel. If anything, Crosby said, he's not working hard enough to get an opportunity to shoot."

#87 quote from the article-
“Maybe a couple I would have maybe taken a shot,” Crosby said. “It's always easy to say that after the pass gets blocked or what have you. I haven't had a ton of opportunities to shoot it. I think that you really have to work hard to get in those positions. I have to do a better job of getting there and getting pucks to the net.”

http://triblive.com/sport...-74/penguins-coyotes-goal

Save all the #87 is the savior speeches… his comment is disturbing not only because he wears the “C”, but because his play is supposed to influence the rest of the team. If he's not working hard enough, then who is? Here, all this time, I thought shooting the puck was a breeze; who knew it took effort. This helps explain why BB is allowed to be on the team. I give him credit for his honesty/ accountability AND not scapegoating w/ some lame excuse.

Save the #87 is the most tightly checked offensive player in the league speeches as well. Because if that is true, then through 2 games, he's said that he hasn't been up to the challenge of out-working the opponent, so as to position himself to shoot the puck. Its an arduous task, but...

Too critical? I can think of 8.7M reasons, sponsored by the letter "C', to be critical. Throw-in 2 uninspiring losses on top of it. In the long run, he'll get his points + Pens will get plenty of wins. Especially if HCMJ got their minds right.

In the meantime, I hope #87 puked first @ practice today, so the peons knew it was okay to also do so (i.e. w/out the risk of being humiliated)!

On a positive note, and one thats been over-shadowed - credit #29 for 2 solid starts and giving his team a chance to win both games.

Balance.

The article linked to is pretty much spot-on. But it left out Johnston's preference for utter passivity - that's not okay with a bunch of talent in the forward ranks.

Usage is way down the list of issues. It's a simple system that Johnston doesn't change - teams figured it out quickly last year, they were in the passing lanes waiting on the puck because the Penguins' Junior-level coach employs a Junior-level system.

It's funny because the FO over-reacted to some playoff issues (PHI 2012, NYI 2013, CBJ 2014). But when it gets right down to it, the Penguins were 10-8 during those games. And now we have a boring-ass conservative system to thank for that over-reaction.

I'd rather win games 6-5 than lose games 2-0, defensive integrity be damned.

What Is More Problematic: Mike Johnston's System Or His Player Usage?

- Ryan_Wilson

I don't buy this!!! Yes, Scuds is old and slow (though I don't think he's totally useless as most on this thread do)... his minutes should be minimized!!! Problem is this teams "scoring issues" go back to January of last season... The PP has been bad!!!

The larger issue is there is a perception around the league that the Pens are "soft" and "easy to play against"... Yes, they produce a lot of shots, but many are from the outside... Niemi, Smith, Hank and 10-12 other goalies going back to the end of last season giving up 2 or less goals to a team with this much talent????? Something has been off for the last 30 games and its not simply "misuse of players".

Don't they have a sports psychologist to treat their 'star' players - doesn't Nash take 1 home for extra help?

I was thinking the same thing when I scrolled through the games this week. Three afternoon games on a non-Holiday monday?!?! It's not baseball. I don't see the scheduling need to do this.

Holiday or not, the vast majority of us people here in the United States don't have off and therefore cannot watch the games. I just don't get why they couldn't do these games at night.

Yes and the whole universe revolves around the people in the United States, even if only they think so.

@Victoro311: just to gain perspective: despite everything the Flyers are still in contention for the presidents trophy, Lecavalier, Umberger, and Van de Velde are still in the Art Ross, Hart, and Rocket Richard race, Luke Schenn is still in the Noris conversation, and they have certainly not been eliminated from the playoffs.
- jmatchett383

So? You're the only one that cares about the Flyers. Most of us hate them more than baby killers and people that rape kids.

I think he's definitely on a better team. Doubt either will be as dominant as Ovie/Crosby were in their early years though.

Still think we have overreacted to the bad start. Give it time. A great team should be able to do whatever it wants that's why it's great.

If the system is flawed because the opposition has worked it out how hard is it to tweak it a little & use option B or C through a game - all go is systems have alternative options of play based around the 1 core system, & if it doesn't it should.

Philbo led the example by picking off a slamming home a great individual play - that's not part of the system that's defence so more of the same please!! Give plot an easier assignment with Boner & get Perron up where he belongs, throw DTM on the third & GIVE HIM SOME (frank)ING TIME BECAUSE HES A PLAYER THAT ACTUALLY GIVES A (frank) & IS TRYING TO WIN FFS! More than the 8 minutes I ORIGINALLY SAID HE WOULD GET & YES IVE BEEN PAYING A-(frank)IN-TTENTION!!!!

Please give Dinger a look top 4 pleeease??? Can this be Scuds last game for a spell so he with all his cup winning experience can mentor MJ from the bench pleeeease??

If McLellan can get some direction & a D man that can actually lead a team then the Oil are far more skilled with their top 9 - they have to be right? How many top picks are running round in Oil?? Individually I think Eichel will be the more do I any player than McD, & quite possibly - just saying, McD will take a lot longer to develop due to the environment he is playing hockey in due to all those top picks he's playing with.

Eichel does have a lot more experience around him but there are still the remnants of the tanking from last year that will take their time to leave.

Edit: What the (frank) is that IPad?? That should be "more dominant individual', (frank)in thing writes it's own sentences!!!,
