"is it true that that pick from 2009 that Homer traded away for that bum, turned into a solid 2nd pairing defenseman for that one team that one time? If so, what joke of a franchise the flyers are" - funmaster18
At some point, the statute of limitations does need to kick in with some of this stuff
Homer was just like every other GM; some good, some bad. Some of it was great, and it's too bad that gets forgotten a little too easily

Mason's effort on Saturday was shockingly bad. Hopefully it was a one off. |

That was no slide...that was a tackle. IMO, suspension was deserved. |

OK, I guess I'll be the guy. What do you think about the Amac waiving? - funmaster18
I'm actually 100% fine with it, even though I know you were asking MJL directly. We've basically traded off MacDonald for Medvedev. I'm also excited to see the switching of Manning for Gudas in the line up. I don't think Manning has stood out in anyway, nor do I think he's that good at this level. I'll go as far as saying that Luke Schenn is better than Radko Gudas and Brandon Manning, while I don't see why Schenn and Gudas cannot be in the line up at one time.
I don't think we're missing Mac. Sorry. |

I think it's a horrible decision to suspend a deity like Chase Utley for playing like Ty Cobb. |

I totally understand why the Mets were pissed, because yeah, the slide was late and yeah, Utley was doing a takeout slide. I can't honestly argue that if you want to suspend him, then you couldn't reasonably do it
But at the same time: WTF was Utley supposed to do, in reality? You're down 2-1 in the 7th inning of a five-game series that you're trailing 1-0 -- and the next two games are on the road. No, I don't think Tejada was gonna turn that DP. But WTF are you supposed to do? Let him possibly make a great play and end the inning?
I hate the guy is hurt, and MLB made the decision to punish Utley. But I'm sorry. I can't fault the guy for going in hard, there. I just can't |

I think Manning is the kind of player that you generally don't want to notice. Generally speaking, if you're really noticing the 6/7 defenseman, it's a bad thing. He hasn't done anything terrible, but he hasn't done anything really good either. No problem with him sitting. |

Utley could have sold it better by throwing an armm out to actually try to touch the bag. But given current rules he did nothing wrong.
Ken Rosenthal talked to an unnamed MLB player who said both guys don't put themselves in those positions in the regular season. Sounded like the Mets player put himself in a position to get seriously hurt and Utley went in looking to wipe out the double play. Poop happens. |

I think the bashing comes from the feeling that we're stuck with the bad. A lot of other teams jettisoned their problems with the buyouts, like we did with Bryz and Briere, only we're still stuck with Vinny and AMac. |

My only problem with it is that, just like the NHL, they're ruling based on the result and not the intent. If Utley misses and/or Tejada isn't hurt, there's no punishment, or maybe a fine. These plays happen at least once every 2-3 nights across the league and you almost never see a player suspended multiple games for them. |

But it's clear that Hextall is slowly correcting those mistakes, so why repeat the same complaints daily when we know it's being worked on? Oh my well |

Well, there's no way that a quality 4/5 defenseman at good market value will pass through waivers. I'm sure somebody will pick him up. |

You gotta try to win within the rules, and without attempting to injure another player. Utley was supposed to slide prior to and within reach of the bag while still trying to disrupt the play. |

I wish the deals were gone, but as long as they're doing the right thing by not playing them, then really, at some point, we're locked in
I get frustrated with it, too. We all do. But we are just not gonna be able to do anything about this until the end of the season -- maybe -- for Wheels, and likely even longer for MacDonald

He played sparingly with them in 13/14 (actually started out in the AHL) and played maybe 8-12 games. Last season, he spent about 2/3 of the season with them after none of Schenn/Simmonds/VLC worked. This is the first time that he's been counted on as the third member of that line from the get-go. |
