Well they just absolutely dominated the Kings. It's about as early as it gets, but that was a beating

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sharks miss the playoffs again.

They will get better goaltending with Jones but this is basically the same team as last season, and they seemed dysfunctional last year.

Great start against the Kings though.

1. Anaheim
They have a great team. In net, they have two great goalies, their defense is great, and their offense is amazing.
2. LA
Quick will definitely be the X-factor in this one. If he is the quick we saw a couple years ago, LA will have no problem reaching the playoffs. They made some great additions with Lucic. Overall, they have a great offensive and powerhouse approach to the game.
3. San Jose
Like someone else said; new coach, new players, new attitude. I really think San Jose isn't in a rebuilding phase yet. Once Thornton and Marleau are gone, then yes.
4. Calgary
Calgary won't do as well as last year, but by adding Hamilton, they are strengthening an already amazing defense. Not to mention with young guns Sam Bennett and Gaudreau leading their offense.
5. Edmonton
Edmonton might be the most surprising team because they are literally one move away from being a playoff team. If they make a move for a top 2 elite defender, then I could easily seeing Edmonton jump Calgary, but for now, that will not happen. They have improved greatly over this offseason, but not enough imo for a playoff spot.
6. Vancouver
They made too many boneheaded moves (Trading for Sutter and sending away Bonino) this offseason. I really feel that Vancouver is trending downward. Their defense is shaky, but their offense is one of their bright spots, not to mention Miller is in net.
7. Arizona
Austin Matthews' New Home.

1. Ducks
2. Flames (in spite of last night)
3. Kings (also in spite of last night)

4. Sharks
5. Canucks
6. Oilers (most overhyped team since the Pens in Crosby's rookie year; spoiler alert-they finished DFL)
7. Yotes (winner of best Auston Matthews odds)

They beat the Kings by 4 goals opening game last year too..

Sharks always start out with opening day wins.
How they finish, well remains to be seen.

I wasn't really referring to the goal total, I watched the whole game and they steam rolled them pretty much from start to finish.

That said yes, it's game 1. But if they're capable of playing like that, they have a chance to do a lot better than people think, myself included.

Goes to show what happens when a eastern blogger just watches yesterday's highlights of Western games. San Jose? Reeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaalllly? The only team where the players battle themselves for club leadership.
- Beatle_john

I think it was the lack of a battle for leadership....If we had multiple leaders that were fighting for it on the ice we would have gone much further in the past.

Was nearly the same team the season before that and the season before that. Not saying I am high on my team here but the example you give has very mixed results.
