Found it interesting that hakstol reportedly talked to vinny last week days before gagner about his status as a scratch. This guy isn't sniffing the ice unless there's a huge amount of injury
- Just5

Considering how his play has deteriorated, thats probably for the best. With Gagner, perhaps his appearances on the ice and in the pressbox will be purely situational, based on matchups?

Also interesting, were comments attributed to Hakstol (in Carchidi's column written after practice today), talking about Luke Schenn, "he's been rock-solid from the start of camp. He's competed hard."

What I find most interesting about that is that both Hakstol and Hextall (in my idiot opinion and I reserve the right to be wrong, as always) have been very stingy with praise this off-season. Praise for B. Schenn was certainly not forthcoming.

Perhaps, with B, its a Machiavellian maneuver to get him to play with the throttle wide open all the time (he's been consistently inconsistent as a Flyer).

Perhaps, with L, its a case where they (Hex and Haks) are inclined to put as little pressure on him as possible. One doesnt feel enough pressure, and one feels it too much. What do you all think?

I think the sign of a good coach and, well, a good Organization is the ability to adjust to the players on the team.

What you say about how they are handling each of the two players could very well be the case.

I watched the Canada games at the WC and I was very impressed with what I saw. My hope is that it helps his confidence and he learns from the solid players on that roster.
- Hextall271

I watched what I could of him at the WC. I think most fans feel he has potential he hasn't reached yet in terms of offense. I'm not trying to extrapolate too much out of a single tournament, but it was his confidence that showed most clearly. And for a young player, that is greater than any statistic achievement at the tournament. That's what he is most lacking after his early career usage in the NHL. But I mean shutting down Czech Republic twice, Sweden, Slovakia, Switzerland, Russia...that is not chopped liver! All while scoring 7 points in 10 games and having ZERO goals against the entire tournament. I saw Coots showing his great passing vision, running through people with the puck and proving nigh impossible to strip, and moving his feet more. If we see that Coots...enjoy the next 7 years (at least) watching him!

FWIW:
Flyers 1st goal: Giroux on the pp, assists to Raffl and Streit

Flyers 1st penalty: Manning (high sticking)

Flyers 1st win: tomorrow night

Flyers 1st loss: 10/10 vs FLA

Flyers final record 40-32-10: 90 pts, 6th in the metro, 21st in the NHL

I'm hoping for Cup hangover for the Hawks. Plus we are pretty good against them in our own building.

I'm calling 2-2 through the first 4 games. I expect to score the first goal in Tampa, just for them to roll over us 4-1. I expect a split against the Panthers.

We can use the defensive responsibilities excuse but we've tried to use Couturier at every position on the PP and even now, I don't think anyone could tell me next guy where he should play.

I think that makes a lot of sense. Whether it's right or wrong, idk. But it does make a lot of sense to me. I just desperately hope that brayden can put it all together this year. Luke... well whether he has a good season or not I doubt he's wearing orange and black next year. Regardless, I hope he has a good season for our sake, and for his sake.

The movie likely would have been terrible, anyway. Wrong type of project for him.

I'd rather that then them losing a bunch of games then winning a bunch of pointless ones at the end of the season.
