Personally, I'd play Gagner in the top 9, Umberger on the 4th line and VDV on the bench.

I've seen Umberger actually win puck battles in preseason and outskate a few people. Well see if that actually means anything

We don't know what Hakstol is going to do, going forward. What you are suggesting could happen by Game 3.

Flyers screwed themselves over. Gagne had a decent season with us and prefered Cleary for some reason.

I'd like to thank the Red Wings for saving us from ourselves with the Dan Cleary thing.

While I don't believe in Del Zotto and Manning as a second pair, I overall like the balance of the line up and pairing. What comes into question for me is Sean Couturier's offensive ability between Schenn and Simmonds. Briere was successful between those two because he had speed and make plays. I wouldn't call Couturier a fast skater but what he lacks in skating, he makes up for it by reading the plays degensively. Now I believe Couturier to be an underrated playmaker for this team but not at a Briere level.
- SuperSchennBros

Schenn Couts Simmonds line must score. I see the offensive pressure as being squarely on them this season. I think the Read Laughton Umberger line can definitely shoulder much of the defensive load, but that second line has got to score goals.

I'd do the same. In fact I'm puzzled that Porter didn't make the team over Vandevelde. I might have too high a standard for 4th line players but I'm hoping Vandevelde plays himself off the roster.

I think they'll have something close to last year's record.

Basically, this is last year's team, with the exception of a new coach.

Simmonds and BSchenn both did better with Couturier last season than they did without him, even though they started in their own zone much more often when they played with him. I think it has the makings of a good second line.

BSchenn
2.14 P/60 with Couturier, 41% OZ starts
1.22 P/60 without Couturier, 59.7% OZ starts

Simmonds
1.88 P/60 with Couturier, 41.5% OZ starts
1.25 P/60 without Couturier, 54.6% OZ starts

Get ready for the uproar, but I am ready to end this Couturier as 2C of the future - experiment.

Would be cool with a Laughton-Couturier-? 3rdline for the future.

Has anyone done the Flyers 82-game win/loss like all of the "experts" do before the football season where they pick whether each game will be a win or loss to come up with their final season record? Sounds like a BiggE adventure task.

When I look at the defensive pairings, it all sure fails to excite me in anyway possible. I see a lot of time in our end of the rink throughout the season
- Buzzo

hopefully medvedevdevevev will be good at icing the puck without icing it. if there's one area i desperately want to see improvement, and i don't expect much given what we have, is their ability to cleanly and quickly get it out....even if it gives them time to regroup and get even a partial change if necessary. the thing that drives me the most crazy is seeing 943 cleared attempts where 941 SHOULD have gotten out without a problem. it ends up wearing them down, and causing penalties, which on the road was disastrous last year.

get. it. out.

now.

true...BUT...if coots and schenn improve....and read rebounds...and umberger does too because he's healthy even 50% better + medvedev and maybe a full year of laughton...and maybe no amac. it might not be that bad.
