Well... at least that's better than the 3 on 1s when hippo and no hip where on that top pairing.
- Feeling Glucky?

Who knew a hippo could do a 540 at the opponents blue line giving up a 3-1 and getting beat back to his own end by a forward behind the opponents net.

Last year was fun.

Gardiner is one of the best in the league and Peitrangelo one of the worst... apparently.

Oh I wasn't disagreeing with him. I do actually kind of agree with the latter more than the former, though.

Only one forward that will throw a body check, you can guess who.

Let's take baby steps.

First question: who on this line is digging out the puck from our net after all the goals?

- Atomic Wedgie

Someone from the 2nd shift, 4th shift, 5th shift and 11th shift.

Impossible to tell who it may be after the first period.

a 22 year old prospect with upside?

he may never be top pairing but the kid has the potential to be an NHL contributor

and it costs the leafs exactly nothing

- Dozzer

It cost two other 22 year old Leafs pick a spot that played well in camp.

So, yes it did cost something and sent a message that things really have not changed.

To be fair...Grabner is probably hurt already.
- AdamFrench

let's all have a friendly bet on here.

What happens first?

Lupul Injury, Grabner injury, Phaneuf hitting own teammate (with puck or body check)

True
- Fruitcakenipple

I'm curious to see what Hunwick does.

I honestly don't understand the types of players Phaneuf's been paired with over his career with the Leafs.

How is it that coach after coach puts a bottom pairing d-man beside him, and plays them top pairing minutes night after night?

- BINGO!

It's about time the world wakes up and recognizes that Alex Pietrangelo is the worst defensive defender in the league!

Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with picking up Corrado.

I just don't think it will make an iota of difference, nor will losing Panik.

Wait until Phaneuf stops to think what the coaches told him to do as the players go around him to the net. Actually not anything different than before.

The graph also shows what Bob Hartley already knows and Mike Babcock is going to quickly learn. They’re in possession of monstrously underrated defenders in T.J. Brodie and Jake Gardiner, respectively. Again, I think this speaks to how defencemen can be effective in myriad ways. Brodie and Gardiner are giving up 40 pounds to a similarly-strong defender in Methot, and yet they’re able to shut the door to these quality chance areas in the same manner.

that will go over well with leafs fans

Nah, if they pick up a 22 year old cast off and yet have two 22 year olds who played really well in Percy and Loov, it stinks. You cannot use the age argument.

Eventually you have to bring these guys in, can't group them all together.

I'm truly frightened by this latest development.

Any time you tell a professional athlete to start doing something different from the way they are used to doing things, it's a huge risk.

Is it possible that Dion can just start pointing his toes in a new angle of attack, and everything will work out well?

Sure, yeah, in theory, that might be able to happen...
