Off topic question that I should post in the Kings thread, except it's emptier than Bozak's 2nd leather Laz-y-boy in front of the X-box:

What's the status of Mike Richards?

Doesn't the league have to settle this - or at least put in some sorta temporary fix or at least statement regarding cap implications?

You don't think Phil comes home every other weekend?

God Bless Leafs Nation.

If Yzerman grabs a stick and jumps on the ice and effs around with the boys, nobody cares.

In Toronto, Shanny doing it is apparently indicative of something significant.

Not sure what it is, but we are all very certain it is significant.

You ever wonder if Masai Ujiri has ever grabbed a ball and thrown a few free throws at the end of a practice, just for yuks?

Yeah - or Anthopoulos donning the ski goggles and getting in on the homoerotic champagne in the face locker room celebration. Wait - ppl were upset about that too. What's wrong with this town?

I love the media angle that believes Babcock will be able to transform every player on that roster.

I've been fairly tongue in cheek on here today - but - I don't think it's a Leafs Nation issue having a problem with this one...team Pres. should not be on the ice in their suit giving players direction. Period. Richard Peddie was too hands on, but this is okay? If he has some notes, give them to the coaches to address. This was offside in my opinion.

Shanny played 21 years in the NHL, put up number like no other. Did Petty ever play hockey?

2 totally different people and circumstances.

good news Babcock is going to teach Phaneuf how to skate!

Mark Masters ‏@markhmasters
Babcock & staff have identified issue w angles Phaneuf has been taking to puck / feet position in general; fixing that will go a long way

Carlyle was mind boggled ..thats how he helped the team

What is the $50M for 8 years to Babcock for? Should he dabble in sponsorship negotiations for MLSE on the side? Yes, "different". But also very "the same" for MLSE.

EDIT: Also, think it was pretty clear he wasn't just "shooting free throws" - he was giving direction to players, which is not his job. He paid $50M+ for 8 years to someone to do this.

It was not at practice.

It was Reimer, Boyes, Harrington and some assistant coach I don't even recognize farting around.

He came out and gave them a few pointers.

You'll forgive me if I don't crap my pants about this.

He's 30 years old.

It's gonna be hard to teach him new tricks. he's been playing like that all his life.

He went on the ice and said some things to some players... once. I'm not overly concerned.

According to a recent Lucas blog, Gardiner was really impressed with Babcock's tips like "face the puck." I'm glad the same minor hockey wisdom is now being bestowed upon the captain as well.

I don't really know him, but Phaneuf strikes me as the kind of guy who will listen, agree 100% that what he has been doing is wrong, and commit to something new without question.

And he'll turn down the dressing room stereo.

It's all good in the Leafs' 'hood.

He is team President, not VP of Player Ops or Development or some other cushy ex-player title. I am not going to lose sleep over it, but it is certainly out of the norm for a team president in my hockey experience and extremely uncommon. If he was cool with it and wanted it to be a regular occurrence I'm sure Babcock would've squashed it...the "no comment" spoke volumes to me. We don't have to agree. I hope we can still be friends.
