Teams can only bury a small amount of a contract in the AHL now, I think it's something like the league minimum + some amount of $. It basically works out to be around 950k you can bury in the AHL, so a 4M contract still costs a tad over 3M against the cap.

Ahh, so it must've been changed. I always thought it was a bit unfair. Like with Wade Redden making eleventy billion dollars, but it all got buried in the minors, so the Rangers had all that free cap space.
