This. Not even leafs management would call Bernier a "bonafide starting goalie." A goalie with a .915 save percentage as a starter is by no means a lock as a starter....

you could put quick or lundqvist in net for the leafs last year and they'd struggle to break 0.9 save percentage.

If you're gonna compare goalies, compare them with the same "quality" forwards and defense.

Not saying Bernier or Reimer are top notch, but i'll bet you theyre easily middle of the road quality starters at the NHL level on an half-average producing team.

What do you get when you put an average goalie on a horrible team? Last year is what you get.

It won't be easy. The Devils and Yotes will be right there with you and don't sleep on the Sabres, either. Peel back the hype and what all of their moves have actually done is elevate them from an average AHL team to a bad NHL team. Also, there's no telling if the Oilers will take one last crack at #1 overall (with Eberle hurt and Nurse demoted, they are off and running!). Their blue line is still as brutal as ever.

It is so much easier to sit through a stated rebuild, than to weather a team that management promised would be so much better year after year. No more re-treads, no more ancient former stars sucking up salary and producing absolutely nothing, no more trading away the future. TML has 2-3 years as a bottom feeder, then we will see.
