Also makes no sense to me. Thanks to this great thing called air conditioning in arenas. Combine that with the cooling system under the floor and ice can be maintained. Wouldn't the fact it's hot there make it so people wanna go somewhere more chilly? You know, like a hockey arena.

Arizona isn't going to attract a lot of people for vacation who will probably go to their favorite team's away game. It also doesn't help that Arizona has bad arenas or unsure which one theyre going to be at. And please name one bad team outside of Canada that has good ticket sales. Every team in the US will suffer in ticket sales when their team is not doing well. It happened to every major market in America so far. If the Lightning weren't a playoff team they wouldn't have good ticket sales either.

Rangers sold out even when they sucked.

But I think to have a sustainable hockey market, you need to have a lot of youth hockey in the area.

The largest city with a hockey team most definitely should sell out regardless of their record.

Well you asked me to name one so I did

But yea in general, a team needs to be successful to have good attendance records. Pitt and Chicago are 2 examples of teams that were rock bottom and now have some of the best records in the league.

Hell look at the Lightning and Panthers. Two teams in the same state in completely different situations in regards to their success and attendance.

Pens and Hawks had ownership/management issues which is outside of the fan base. Even before those teams had success, once they had competent ownership their major issues went away. Though the success further fueled their profitability as it does with any market.

We have a house in Phoenix, so I'm capable enough to say its not a bad arena. None of the facilities in Phoenix are bad. The location of the arena is the major question, much like the Tampa Bay Rays in MLB.

QC is tough because of the Canadian economy right now. With the exchange rate, their expansion fee is crazy high.

I think Portland, Seattle, and Kansas City make the most sense.

- rangerdanger94

Portland or Seattle definitely should get one. I'd love to see a Wisconsin city get a team as well.

Kansas City had almost 0 interest in an NHL team. Portland like Seattle isn't willing to build an arena for a hockey team. I wanted Wisconsin to put in a bid. Have a real rival for the wild. But the Blackhawks are to close and have the right to ask a new team for up to 200 million for making a franchise so close.

The exact amount is unknown because it would be decided on after a team is approved. Its the same reason Toronto isn't getting a second team.

i still maintain that on defense the most important thing is the system and the chemistry. i think most here can agree that Johnston's system is perfect for the majority of our dman and we can also agree that gary agnew has done an amazing job with the dmen.

as for the topic about splitting up maatta and letang, there is a lot of truth to that. but my question is what happens when there is 2 minutes left and you need your most reliable pairing out defending a lead. do you put letang and maatta together even though they dont play together or do you put one of them out with their regular dman partner?

tough questions that i hope johnston works through to find the answer instead of just guessing.

But it's not even the same state though? I don't get how they could have the right to ask for anything

Because a new franchise that close "could hinder fan market" basically they're saying they're going to lose money from new teams.

Wonder what it's like for multiple NY/CA/FL teams

Edit: Hell Columbus to Detroit is just over 200 miles, Green Bay to Chicago is almost the exact same.

Someone just needs to claim the (frank)ing guy and play him extensively. Someone like Arizona or Toronto. See if with the increased ice time he actually turns into something.

The problem with Wisconsin is that the team would have to be in the western conference right?

I think they want to balance out the conferences which means 2 new teams need to be in the west.

Chicago is the 3rd largest city I believe, and they had terrible turnouts when the Hawks sucked. They weren't even close to selling out games. Literally looked close to what panthers games are

Considering las Vegas is basically a lock to get a team it would mean two teams actually in the west if Wisconsin got the other one instead of Quebec city.

Careful where you say that. I've been called a fat ugly troll for saying that. But I'm not gonna let blackhawks fans bring up the pens bad years without bringing up theirs.
