So... this game is pretty much going to decide most of the D it seems. |

A pointless waste of time and a PTO in the first place. He can't play hockey. He is not tough. Why? Pens with the worst PTOs of any team. Gonchar is done. This was already known. If you are bringing him in to be an assistant coach, then do that. But he can't play anymore. |

Totally agree. I was baffled. Looking at the guys that other teams invited and released from PTO, I am dumbfounded how Sestito got a contract. Maybe it was a personal favor to HCMJ lil buddy on the Nucks. Or maybe it was a hidden part of the #FSutter deal. |

Thats just the thing, I like d-men that I dont notice because they are just doing what needs to be done quietly. It means I dont have to be worried about them.
The Goldilocks comparison - Zac_O
I am an occupational therapist and people all the time ask, how hard to stretch? I tell them not too hard and not too passive, you know just right. I call it the Goldilocks factor. Glad you like it. It's funny, people remember it too! |

And frankly, the soon-to-be 39 year old Cullen looks done, too. |

I wish I could lighten up...I wish I could. But I've watched hockey a long time and this defense is brutal. The Crosby/Malkin window is closing and this is the worst D of their careers!
Think about it, the Pens D last year was just above average and that's WITH Martin and Ehrhoff, two legit top 4 D men. Who did we replace them with? A hodgepodge of bottom pairing scrubs. - thevelvetfog1
Ehrhoff only played 49 games and wasn't impressive when he did play. But I do see where you're coming from but you only say negative things. Just try to be more positive. Thats all I'm saying. |

The Pens offense should light up the scoreboard in the regular season. Yay! How's that? |

I do my best not to slam PTOs... they are technically no risk, and I like to believe the people handing out those PTOs know more than us. Gonchar I saw some value in with the powerplay and if he could be a 6-7 Dman level of play still. Hes not, not even close... now I hope he could get a job with the team for the special teams. Because his powerplay ability is the ONLY skill he has left.
Sestito... I guess it was a "why the Hell not" PTO. |

Agreed.. but he could become the 13th forward if they keep Sprong up for a 9 game look, promote Sundqvist or when Fehr is healthy |

That saddened me honestly... I remember looking up some of his play from last year after the signing. He looked like a solid 3rd line grinder still... then those 3 months of the offseason aged the (frank) out of him. |

Here's why not. The entire league already knows that Sestito and Gonchar are done and can't play anymore. Giving them PTOs means you don't give a PTO to two other players who might be a diamond in the rough or at least a "serviceable" player who meshes well with the team and/or in the Pens system. Sestito and Gonchar were a known sub-zero value. Hell, they could have instead given Cullen a PTO, realized he is done, too, and released him instead of signing him to a contract. It is doubtful anyone else was going to sign Cullen. |

I believe Gonchars value is that if someone gets hurt he can play bottom line instead of calling someone who needs to clear waivers up. That person would most likely be Erixon. The defensive prospects kinda drop off after him. |

Well wbs should be good this year.
Guess spring gets a 9 game tryout and Gonchar will get a contract... so we will have Gonchar for a mil and scuds for 3.4 mil.. ugh
Doesn't bos need D. Can't we send scuds there for a 7th? |

I really don't believe Gonchar fits as even a call up D at this stage. The only time I am not cringing at his play, is when they gave him powerplay time.
Erixon is hurt btw? Or have I simply missed him playing completely? |

Gonchar is a pylon. Erixon looks like a young, hulking pylon. Call me crazy, but I'm not a fan of pylons on defense. |

Exactly. Or any number of other players who are legit NHL players. Boyes for instance. Or Bernier. |
