Considering the Rangers iced basically their full lineup and you guys iced almost no one, I think you guys put up a good fight. You had a hard working team there last night and that tends to go a long way. Bergeron, Kreijci, Chara, Rask, Krug, Marchand, etc. will all do their part...and once supplemented with hard working kids around them, I think you guys will surprise some people this year.

That'll be decided tonight. IMO they should sign him either way, as Jeremy smith is no upgrade on svedberg from last year, who was not good enough.

Also Gustavsson could be a guy that pushes Rask, whereas smith will likely be fine with just being the backup

i see them signing Gustavsson, sending Smith to Providence and packaging Subban.

It's smart. He realistically won't be a starter here for at least 5-6 years, and he'll be 28 by that time. Not a chance he'll back up for that long. McIntyre doesn't seem like he'll be good enough to be starter in the league, so thats a great option to be Tuukka's backup in the coming seasons

I'd be cool with using Subban in a package if it gets you a Top 6 F or a Top 4 D. He doesn't have much of a shot in BOS unless Tuukka is hurt or traded. I like Zane and think after a year in Prov he can be a good backup option.

to be honest i think that McIntyre could very well be a quality NHL starter. in the future. i think Subban is the one with trade value now.

I think Subban has such a high ceiling though. I think it would be better to have him backup for next year and increase his value. Guys like Talbot and Jones from this year pulled a good haul because they impressed people playing behind good goaltenders. Subban is highly regarded, but hasn't done much to turn heads. What he gets for us now may be another Connolly or Hayes that we're unsure of at the moment. It would be better to trade him for a bonafide winger in a season or two that can't fit under a team's cap. My opinion anyways. Plus if Rask goes down, who do we want thrown into the starting position, Smith, Zak or Subban? (assuming Gus isn't signed)

I think they should try to extend him now before the season starts. 25-35 +20 is super realistic and he's gonna get PAID if he does that. But yeah 5x5 would be solid

Marchand - Bergy - Ericksson
Beleskey - Krejci - Pasta
Hayes- Spooner - Connolly

I still think we need to upgrade a spot or two on the top SIX wings. But, maybe we should just stick with Ericksson on Bergy's wing this season and see what he can do..........?

We have a lot of the boarder line second liners on the team (Hayes & Connolly & possibly Beleskey) and we have been using Ericksson as a third liner since he has been here.

Would be sweet to find a legit high end winger, although I wouldn't be surprised to see Marchand and Pasta break or near the 30 goal mark this season. I wish Marchand would develop his puck POSSESSION abilities, especially on the PP, he either shoots or turns the puck over........not much else, it reminds me of Samsonov. And Ericksson with Bergy will hit 30 goals again this season too........especially with his PP abilities.

They must be hoping that Connolly or Hayes become 25 goal wings this season.

You forgot Pasta! HE will be our high end winger. I wonder if a package of Koko and Subban gets us anywhere near JVR? I think he'd be dynamite on Krejcis wing

Totally agree, I think some people were just way too excited to jump on the "Bruins suck" bandwagon. When Sweeney first got hired he vowed to return the B's to their aggressive, difficult to play against ways. I'm impressed by how quickly he made that a reality

I have him in there. I think one more would be ideal though.

Remember Bergy with Seguin? Pasta with Bergy and maybe like you said, JVR with Krejci.........

I have high hopes for Pasta, but I think he'll probably take a season or two more to really develop and shine. He can be great, but I hope they don't ask too much from him too soon. The preseason game I was at I liked what I saw from him.. he seemed to be getting a little grittier, and more willing to take the body... I liked that.

I would like to see a trade like this, but we don't have a ton of space under the cap to fit someone in. JVR is a good young player that Toronto might want to hold on to, but if we were able to load up a big enough package, it might be too hard for them to resist. JVR's salary could work, but currently would be juuuuuuussssst a little too expensive. We'd have to package someone from the pro roster in with him to make it work, but if he would be knocking someone out of the lineup anyways so maybe that person goes with the package.

"Chara was on the ice for at least 15 minutes, working with strength and conditioning coach John Whitesides. He worked mostly on retrieving pucks, catching passes and stick handling. It does not appear Chara is ready to shoot the puck, as he abstained from shooting aside from an occasional lazy wrist shot.". -DJ Bean article.

Not good. Any updates on what the issue with Chara is.........he isn't even shooting the puck?

Pec, shoulder, rib.....?
