Clendening has shown me enough to warrant some time up here.

As for Pouliot, he looks like he needs time in the AHL. It's not hard to see. He also is waiver exempt so why not send him down? It will help his development and no one said we can't call him up in January if he is killing it.

Also, with Clendening, he has a good outlet pass and heads up skating style that MJ likes. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get time up here to start the season.

How do you guys see Fleury doing this year, and as a result the Pens finishing in the East? Do you think the D will hold up and he'll put up decent regular season numbers?

I saw the comments by the guy above, I'm asking genuinely.

Wicked good top pairing, average after that. With our depth at forward we should be fine.

As for Fleury, he has been trending upward since he got a new goalie coach so I would expect a similar season to last year, probably less shutouts though, but overall a better and more consistent product.
Top four team in the East next season with Washington, Tampa, and one of CBJ, NYI, NYR.

He has been injured and a non-participant from what I saw.

Picking him for a fantasy league? Fleury has been solid or better since changing goalie coaches two years ago. His positioning is much better than it used to be. He's also about the only Penguin that can stay healthy so 40+ team wins should be safe unless the team has catastrophic injuries (very possible).

I'm skeptical he'll learn much at the AHL level. He was already dominant there last year. Ideally they could put Lovejoy and Pouliot together on the 3rd pairing. But I'll probably end up being Scuderi "mentoring" him.
- jfkst1

From what I understand he only "dominated" offensively. As a defenseman that's not dominating a league. And ideally third line would be pouliot and Dumo with cole and Lovejoy on the second line and scuds the #7.

Correct. I have him and Quick, I've seen some mixed reactions to how the pens will do this upcoming season is all. I've taken him in the past and had it work out quite well for myself.

I meant ideally as having a legit 3D like Franson and Cole as the 4D. Cole's never been more than a bottom pairing guy and now he's probably the first one to play on the top pairing if our durable duo of Letang or Maatta go down.

I haven't heard much. I forget where I read it, but somebody said he's not having a good camp.

As far as his actual play, Objectively, he is inconsistent. As far as fantasy he is a stud. Because fantasy focuses so much on wins for goalies he is a top 10 fantasy goalie. Yes the pens defense should scare you about having him but he is still a very good fantasy goalie.

Yes but im talking ideally with who is actually on the team. Cole may be unproven but he has shown some good defensive abilities.

We'd be in so much better shape of Martin had just one more year in his contract

Re-trade Bonino and have Fehr play 3C?

We'll see. Martin's well past his prime and his play might very well be significantly declining in the near future.

For Fantasy, Fleury is a top 5 goalie pick the last few years via wins and a no longer abysmal SV and GAA.

Bonino and Fehr will be huge values for this team. Guys in the bottom 6 who can score 30+ points, and are making 2M or less.

Bonino isn't making enough to trade him for a defensive upgrade really... Unless is a Bonino Scuds package... but then Cullen might be doing 3rd line Center duties for a month or two until Fehr is back. Not exactly thrilled with that idea.

The state of the Defense is quite concerning. Doesn't seem to be any reliability besides Letang, Maata, Cole, Lovejoy. And the top two guys are a bit fragile after all the concussions and surgeries.
- chimpira

I'm not about to call Lovejoy reliable. We are one injury away from one of our top pair from having a disastrous defense.

So, you are going to take less in return to throw in Scuderi? He has negative value.

So, if someone is consistently not very good, how is that reliable?
