Vinny's $2m bonus for 15-16 has already been paid. He is only due $8.5m over the next three seasons.

http://www.generalfanager.com/players/1528

$2.5m for the 15-16 season

$500K as a bonus on 7/1/16

$2.5m for the 16-17 season

$3m for the 17-18 season

Better to pay him $4.5 mill for 3 more years, and keep tripping over him.

I am little surprised that it has been decided that Simmonds is a better fit as Cout's RW then BSchenn. Maybe it hasn't been decided and if they struggle to start the year Schenn goes back to what is the 2nd line RW position.

I love Simmonds but his 5 v 5 game has some holes. As does BSchenn's.

Framing VLC for a trade is fine.
Giving Sam Gagner a shot in preseason to play LW is fine.
Neither of these guys start ahead of BSchenn when the real season starts. It should not happen.

If the Flyers are truly serious about getting off to a strong start to the season, there is no way in hell Wheels is in the opening night lineup.

I mean, come on. Lord knows I am not Brayden Schenn's biggest booster, but I'd play him every day and twice on Sunday if someone is pretending there is a choice to be made here

I think it's pretty clear they don't love Schenn, but I absolutely refuse to believe that Wheels is getting in a regular-season game over him

Thank you for the info. My point, though, remains. The cap savings in terms of hit v. actual salary make it more difficult, still, to justify trading him. He's owed $3 million in salary, but his cap hit is 4.5 million.

It would still take a GM seeing a justification to pay him $3 million for 10-15 goals, limited skating ability, and an inability to play a checking line role. If it only saves the team 1.5 million in actual spending, that's what, the equivalent to two NHL call ups? But for the savings Arizona got on Pronger's deal, that's 4 ELC contracts in savings, or one free-agent they don't need to pay to play 1 season. That's much more significant for a team that wants to keep its costs down and doesn't want to burn years of ELC contracts on some of their younger players.

I actually get as frustrated with people says simmonds isn't a good 5 on 5 player as much as everyone else does about schenn. Simmonds is a good skater he back checks pressures the puck is physical and is good at getting the puck up ice. He doesn't score as many goals even strength because he's a post up power forward. Yes I'd love to see him score more even strength but he's an excellent player on the ice. And he's been moved around not as much as Schenn but probably 2nd most on the team behind him.

My argument was I think Schenn Umberger vinny Gagner all play and this somehow turned to this.

I agree that B Schenn should, without question, be in the lineup. He is clearly a better player than either VLC or Gagner.

Common sense will prevail when two points are on the line. I don't know if they are trying to motivate Schenn, showcase Wheels, a combination of those or whatever, but common sense will prevail on opening night

I know the theme seemed to start when I got jumped on for it. Though I think Schenn is our 7th best forward on our team right now and could be as high as 5 if he grows consistent.

100% agree about simmonds 5v5. Scoring isn't everything in e.s. play. Plays a responsible defensive game, his skating and puck handling looks awkward, but that dosent mean he's lacking in those areas

Honestly, I think its all just a bunch of farting in the wind.

Playing or not playing LeCavalier, bSchenn, Gagner and Umberger.

I think all are probably irrelevant to the Flyers establishing themselves as a cup team in the future.

However, bSchenn is one who at least has a chance at an upward trajectory. He should get the chance, and not on the fourth line.

Brayden Schenn has had ice time handed to him since he got here, whether he deserved it or not. Good for Hextall for making him earn it a little more. You can quote his point totals from last season all you like, but it doesn't erase 3 goals in 35 games which is (frank)ing ridiculous for an alleged top 6 player who gets primo PP time. He should have been benched or moved down in the lineup long before Berube actually did it.

Really, I just think they are just trying to shine up VLC a little bit to deal him and I think Hextall is willing to eat salary, part with draft picks to do it.

Also, I'd be surprised if Luke Schenn is still a Flyer this time next week.

My thing with Schenn is that if he isnt scoring, he is (frank)ing useless out there. It seems when he scores, he actually gets himself engaged, is physical, etc. When he is not putting up the points, he is just a warm body.

I am not a fan, but he deserves to play over Holmgren's heroes.

Either way, I think even with the excitement of a new coach, expectations need to be realistic.

This is largely the same group as last year. I just want Mason to have a healthy season and Laughton to show that he belongs in the NHL. Otherwise whatever.

Couturier and Schenn are alright players, but I think if neither truly shows they can contribute offensively, and consistently as a 2 line C this year, Flyers need to think about finding a Filppula.

I truly hope all of this is to try to light a fire under B Schenn's ass because there is no way that Vinny or Umberger should play over him. This Team needs goals and he has done way more of that than those other two. The argument that Vinny didn't do well last year was because he was bounced around the lineup can also be used for Schenn's, but Schenn's actually was able to produce.

All that being said I've liked what I've seen so far, but really want to see how the Flyers NHLers play against another team's NHLers before getting too excited. Really liking what I've seen with Medvedev whoever found him in the KHL, well done. Also excited to see Ghost in the future, still think he could have stayed, but get sending him down for more experience.

They need a strong start so all of their excitement with a new season, new coach, etc doesn't fade away. Strong start will go a long way for this team.

That is why I don't believe in him as a player -- nothing there when he isn't scoring

But yeah. I mean, come on. Umberger plays the right way. But Wheels and Gagner are no more an answer than I am to helping the Flyers long-term, and if I squint really hard, I can tell myself that maybe Schenn's game could still become more consistent

I am happy all the kids went down. Perhaps not because I think they cant contriute in the NHL, but I dont want them in this environment. There is still far too much suckage on the big team. Put them in an environment where they have a better chance at winning.

LeCavalier... Just end the (frank)ing experiment already. He is done. Nobody is trading for him. He shouldnt take ice time away from anyone, even the zamboni driver.

Umberger is going to be a pool boy either next year or the one after. Nobody is signing him after the Flyers are done with the sloppy seconds.

I dont give a rats ass if Umberger plays the right way. He wont be around when the team is on a true up swing. I hope he has a good bounce back year and all but I'd rather give his minutes to bSchenn, Laughton or Cousins.

Showcasing Vinny by playing him at center in preseason is like putting a broken CRT out on your sidewalk with a $100 price tag on it. Good luck finding any takers.

Replace CRT with "5 dollar hoe" and you are more accurate.

They showcased him, and took time away from kids for his whole contract here.
