Bob Mackenzie draft preview right now .... doom and gloomers get your hopes up |

Exactly, everyone is quick to suggest moving Hamhuis, but just imagine what our D would look like without him.
Best case scenario is he pulls a Vermette, is trade at TDL and returns to the fold.
Beyond that, I would not be disappointed if he re-upped for a another 3-5 years and would not be disappointed if we move him near the end of the season (assuming we have a plan to somehow address on the D corps next off season. - dbot
How do you get younger if you keep extending players in their mid thirties

I'm just trying to keep the conversation lively.
If I remember correctly my first post was a hockey comment. Not even controversial. Comment about a line combo or something similar.
Was told I was an idiot.
Then it was on. |

IMO, if you have a top pair, Team Canada rep, local boy that also has a NTC, you can only ask him to accept a trade if the team is down n out, but you respect him if he declines. In that scenario, you can't let him walk for nothing and you try and re-sign him to mentor the youth that you mentioned.
I would gladly trade Edler to someone like Ottawa/Florida/TB, etc and try and recoup draft picks and/or blue chip D prospects.

I think Scooby's alter ego had a comment and chompsey too. Least I wasn't ignored. |

He is 32 now and his new contract will kick in when he is 33 and will want a 4 year contract at at least 4.6.
Walk away . |

like we did with Ohlund, Jovo, etc.
That to me is a recipe for disaster...a waste of an asset.
My plan if i was a GM, re-sign the really good ones (skill, maturity, mentoring ability, etc), trade the good ones on expiring contracts for sure and trade any other middle-of-the-road ones that we can replace from the minors.

Yeah, didnt I just say #6. I don't expect much offense out of him as a bottom pairing 5 on 5 and a stay home dman... but once he steps onto the blue line on the 2nd PP, he can actually shoot and move the puck. Thats all I meant....
I think we would see a much better confident Corrado once he gets another 100 games under his belt. He's not really top 4 material... but I think he could be a solid 5 who chips in on the pp. - boonerbuck
Yeah but let's be honest here, who cares if they signed a vet that may have "blocked" him because he's not much of a prospect. He's a fringe asset. |

You want a true #1 guy draft him. I still don't see a problem of saying buy to the old core , finish where we may , and draft a high ranked D man one year and a top centre the following year |

Scenario:
Canucks end up with the 9th overall pick.
The top ranked dman available is ranked around 15th on most lists. The top center is also in the same 14-16 range on most lists. Do you skip the higher ranked wingers for one of them? |
