Provorov and Konecny don't look that far away, but they're both likely going back to juniors. Gostisbehere's offensive game is NHL caliber, but he likely needs some AHL time to round his all around game into shape. Sanheim looks like the biggest project. He just didn't look confident.
- MJL

Agree on Ghost. Put him up against a real NHL roster and I think you will see where he still needs work. Great start for him though coming off injury.

I think Konecny and Provorov have a shot, but still agree they will be sent back. If either of them don't make the team, none of them will, aside from Laughton who I think will make the team.

Wasn't overly impressed with schenn or gagner despite their goals.

Konecny looks like a steal. He and provorov are the only two I see having a shot to make it out of camp, not counting Laughton. Not sure they will, but if anyone has a shot it's those two.

Love medvedev so far. Another steal. Need to see him against top talent but he looks really smooth in every area so far.

Sanheim was disappointing. I agree with bills assessment that he's afraid to make a mistake. He also grabbed guys a few times that I though could have been called but he got away with it.

- funmaster18

I would just send sanheim back now. though I suppose they want to let him soak up the nhl environment.

How did #14 look?

I agree. Junior teams start this week, let him get back and get more time there.

He looked OK. I didn't see any major improvement offensively just yet, but he was asserting himself more. It was nice seeing him get top line minutes. I think they need to find the right line combination for him to excel offensively.

nothing wrong with sending him back early imo. though I get why they may not. He needed to stand out and hasn't. no biggie

I would start him in the AHL since they can call him up whenever.

After seeing the write up on Konecny yesterday I was expecting more from him. He made some really horrible passes, throwing sauce across the rink at 2 mph does not work at any level. I thought all of the young D started a little shaky but settled in as the game went on. Although Sanheim didn't get too involved I thought he was quietly solid. sometimes not hearing about a defenseman at the end of a game means he did his job.

Konecny has been remarkable. From his hockey senses to his speed. He's just been all over the puck and that pass for the assist on Ghost's first goal was great. (So was that ripper Ghost had from his knee). I was also impressed with McDonald's speed and play in last nights game.
- arichardson22

Its only because he doesnt have a stupid un-needed 'A' in his name. That always slows guys down.

Konecny had a couple of turnovers on passes that he likely gets away with in Junior. He has speed and hands and plays with energy, but he's still just an 18 year old kid with no pro experience.

I totally disagree on Konecny. Yeah, he did have a few turnovers.. the 2mph sauce would have been fine if he hadnt telegraphed it. A side from that, he plays very hard, had a few very good scoring chances, set up that goal by Ghost, sprung Cousins for a breakaway, and had a monster of a hit that also set up a really good scoring chance. He has played two exceptional games. At 18, there are bound to be some whoops plays, but the good wayyyyyy out-weighed the bad.

That said he has a lot of hockey sense, which I really like. Sure, those turnovers can be killer against NHL competition, but I also like the approach of trying to make something happen. Konecny seems to be at his best around the net, particularly behind it when he has the puck on his stick.

If you can put a Grossmann/Schenn/Schultz guy on the ice and not hear his name, that's great (i.e. "Set 'em and forget 'em" guys). However, Sanheim's expected to be (eventually) a difference making type of player. With him, if you don't hear his name, he's not performing as you'd like.

If you guys had a choice between Ganger or Laughton on the roster, who would you select?

Also, we did hear Sanheim's name on the first two Ranger goals.

But it's OK, he's going to have a great 19 year old season in the WHL.

Yeah it would be nice for him to get more time, but knowing he's not making the team this year and their emphasis on a fast start, it makes sense for both he and the Flyers to send him back sooner than later. Let guys who will be on the team get more time together and let him get his big minutes in his own league.

My view on the game is opposite of yours. I thought Konecny really stood out and Sanheim was subpar.

He looks like a guy that can play in this league, but hasn't really stood out in any area specifically, in my opinion. Has a lot of heart and works hard, but those are his biggest qualities that I have seen so far this preseason.

I'd say Laughton. Gagner has been underwhelming for me. Looked a little lazy at times. I see his potential, but not sure he's working for it enough.

He is going to be our Brendan Gallagher, Tyler Johnson type.

The sequence where he caused a turnover by throwing a big check in the ozone against the boards and quickly stickhandled to dish the puck in front of the net was fantastic. He's going to be special

I saw a conservative game by sanheim also but not a poor one. I don't think he was as bad in his own zone as ghost was. Ghost needs ahl time and all the kids will get sent back to junior.

I like how the breakouts look faster and their using quick touch passing in their slot area like the best teams routinely do. Also the dmen streaking up the ice for rushes/breakouts is good to see.

Let's see how they look playing an nhl roster.

Yeah I'm not worried about it. The kid made something happen almost every time he was on the ice. He barrels through guys and works pucks free and gets to it first many times. I think we really got a steal with that pick.

I have serious doubts L Schenn can crack this defense as a regular player. I didn't think he looked too good on Monday. Especially if Ghost or Morin can force their way into the lineup by midseason. I haven't seen Gudas play yet, though. So I have to see what he looks like.

It will be interesting to see what cuts are made today, based on Hextall's comments before the preseason, where he said he'd like to pretty much solidify the roster as early as possible.

Absolutely. If anything, I'd do with him what the Flyers did with Morin: work on your defensive game this year and we'll put the rest together afterwards.
