Not unless his game takes a significant jump and he comes out on fire and lights it up. For his size, I still think he's an underachiever. It's a double-edge sword, waiting to see how he plays this season and if the eye injury is a factor before extending or trading. No way he walks. Garth gets fired on July 1 if that happens.

Snow isn't getting fired for having his hands tied in a tough situation. No way that happens.

There is an extremely real chance he walks for zilch on July 1st.

He's never even scored 30, all the sudden he's going to add almost 10 goals to his career best (pre-eye-injury) season? I think that's a bit of a stretch.

Also, what if Lee, Strome, and/or Nelson can put up 25 goals and 65pts while making 1/3, or less, of what Okposo would under his hypothetical contract extension? Would 10 more goals/points be worth somewhere between $2M-$4M extra in occupied cap space over what the other guys take up?

To me, that little bit of (obviously all hypothetical) production wouldn't be worth another contract or two worth of cap space taken up.

I had to look it up. Didn't look right. I'm lucky I can string together a coherent sentence.

No way he walks for nothing. We will agree to disagree on this one Chief and I'm sure this decision will come up in the future by one of us

I have a feeling you're right, but snow has surprised me before. This would be the highest value asset he'd let walk if it happens. We'll see, but I do agree that it's tough to see how we could fit his contract if he gets 6+ on his next deal.

I would actually sh!t perfect spheres.

I didn't want to down the hypothetical road, but if we're going to throw out hypotheticals for Okie then I'm going to counter with ones for the kids.

Forgetting specific numbers, if you can get similar production out of one or two of the three kids at a fraction of the cost that Okposo is going to command I think the most prudent move would be to let them do it and save the cap space.

the wild card is dal colle. If he can step in next season and score 15 goals while say strome gets bumped up to the top line, we'll suffer very little drop off. If he's not ready or struggles and we don't have a replacement we could take a step back. Not a huge one, but it would hurt.

Seeing what Petrov can do this year is going to play a factor in it. If Petrov has a strong "rookie" campaign, that eases the necessity of having Dal Colle step right in. But I agree, having someone ready to pick up the slack is key.

Really interested to see petrov as well. This could be a very fun year. My Bengals are going to win a playoff game and the isles will go past round one.

Don't get ahead of yourself with the Bengals.

Petrov is going to be a major x-factor for a lot of things. If he keeps playing like he, apparently, did last night then I don't think they're going to have much of a choice when it comes to having him on the NHL roster or not. Then things will get real interesting.

as long as Dalton isn't playing on prime time, we stand a good chance LOL

I just want to see Petrov for myself, sounds like he had a solid first game though

I hear were you are coming from Chief and usually we agree, however I think the Islanders are in really good shape cap wise. That said if you want a contender you are going to have to keep your core players ( Which KO CURRENTLY is) and pay them accordingly and ultimately your going to run into cap issues. Ask The Bruins, Hawks Kings Etc. Its just the way it is.
At the end of the day KO isn't playing well cut your ties with him.

You trade him and get a return before the season starts if you don't plan on signing him. Hopefully that's his plan. i know i'm simplifying it but it's pretty cut and dry. I'm guessing he doesn't plan on signing him if he hasn't negotiated with his agent we all know Snow well enough by now to know he would have had him signed or negotiating with him at least.
